Cassandra,

I'm glad that you said you wouldn't bite if you disagreed....lol...I

don't like to be bitten!

I would honestly say that you have many of the characteristics of

sleep apnea but only a sleep study would confirm that. Truthfully,

tonsils and adenoids are generally removed in children to get rid of

their apnea; unless yours are enlarged, they may not suggest that at

all.

I can also say, as a bi-pap user (I switched from a cpap due to my

asthma/copd) with nasal pillows, I would prefer to be compliant and

use my machine every night when I'm ready to go to sleep then risk

not waking up.

In fact, my father-in-law was NOT compliant - wouldn't wear his cpap

and oxygen and guess what? He's been on life support for a week and

is clinically brain dead. Helluva decision for my MIL to have to make

about pulling the plug, but they already know that he won't " come

back " . All because he didn't want to wear a mask.

There are so many new options now - nasal pillows (which are pretty

comfortable if you use Ayr nasal gel first....lol), nasal only masks

and full face masks. My DME has said that folks who suffer from

asthma/COPD generally do better on a bi-pap/bi-level machine because

the lower # is on exhalation and allows all the " old air " to get out

of your body and not build up (which is what causes you wake up

gasping and choking for air).

Anyhow, hope this helps; if not you, then someone else who has been

dx'd but isn't compliant or someone who has all the symptoms but

won't be tested.
