Guest guest
Cassandra, I was thinking the same thing last night!!!!! Not ever having given birth I couldn't use that one. I could say the worst pain after surgery, that would be pretty darn close!!! Having your nails ripped out is close. Having your hair pulled out is close. Having your skin ripped off is close. Sorry, I have no idea how a male with FM could describe the pain to a male Dr - other than " kicked in the groin. Guest guest
HERE is what you tell them... Imagine having the aches from the worst flu you ever had, double that, then have someone beat you about the body with a board on your knees, shoulders and neck and THEN have someone keep you awake for 5 days without any sleep. That comes close to the way fibro feels. love and hugs, Debra V. Guest guest
How about for a male doc - you know how bad it hurts when you get a charley-horse? Even after the cramp eases, there is a remaining pain that takes a day or two to pass. This is what our FM is like. Think that would work? Guest guest
For many of us, the best way to describe it is to compare it to the worst case of the flu that the person might have ever had, because it can be hard for us to tell if we have the flu or a fibro flare. Guest guest
The flu is exactly how I describe to anyone that inquires about about Fibromyalgia, also emphasize the length of time in my case about 7 years of full blown sysmptoms. People outside of the FM community are naturally curious, and anytime a question is asked it provides opprotunity to raise the awareness of this syndrome.
