Guest guest
Jeannette, thanks for not lurking for me....appreciate it very much. not sure where all that came from last nite for me. I do take valium prn and sometimes that can take the edge off a bit. it took me about a week each increase to get used to the lyrica....it sure does make you loopier than if you were drinking. i do trazedone at nite for sleep, but again, nothing knocks me out enough to not wake up stuck and in pain. it helps me go to sleep sometimes when i brain isn't ready to go. i tried the neurontin (gabapinten) early on and it even on such high doses didn't do much to help at all. i'll take your pump that way you won't have to worry about it!! hee hee. it is nice to know that you are so close by and i am hoping to see you post more too! i appreciate your prayers and thoughts and today is better and fear is lost in the moment. I don't have pain but as I tell the Dr and nurses the sx are very uncomfortable and could never sleep or rest without med to control spasms, pin pricks and clonus etc. I was on baclofen for 2 years. when I started to progress dr upped the dose from 20mg a day to 30. I almost died. everything shut down after the 2nd day. started gabapentin and took it for more than 2 years but I had flaking and real dry skin and my last visit with dr told him I couldn't stand it no more. It was like fish scales on my face and moving down to shoulder area. So I had to titrate using half of the 3000mg of gabapentin and 1 75mg lyrica twice a day for 2 weeks. This is my 1st week on the full dosage of lyrica.....150mg morning and at bedtime. It knocks me for a loop... I've had an alcohol drink or two that has made me loopy, but this feels like I've had 10. I hope I get used to it because I only\ have to take 4 capsules a day instead of 10 a day gabapentin. I take 1mg clonazepam at bedtime and it helps my emotional liability. I have the crying version of that. I also take 200mg provigil in the AM. Guest guest
Hi Jill, I have been on Lyrica for at least 2 years if not 3. When I first started taking it I was knocked out too. Yes, I have fallen asleep while on the phone and in mid conversation. Anytime the dosage was upped it always took a couple of months for my body to adjust and to not feel like I was going to fall asleep standing up. I will also get really dizzy too. Goodluck with that and I hope it's working for you. sharon > > Ok, I started Lyrica and everytime I go from 75mg to 150mg, I become SEVERELY TIRED!! I literally can barely stay awake. Guest guest
Hi Jill, I've been having some computer difficulties long with some other poblems but to make a long story short, begining lyrica and increasing the dose will make you tired untill your body adapts. Then you don't have that sleepy, hungover feeling. It is great for those able to take it and awful for those with major side effects. Good luck. Guest guest
I'm thinking I saw a significant sleep problem; like you said. Can't help yourself; you are going to sleep, NOW. For 2-3 days. Then I started " coming back " . I don't remember if it happened with the initial dose but it did when I increased in the past. I'm increasing again starting today so I'll see what happens. Fortunately I've had all my appts. for the week. Guest guest
My sleep coma lasted for a week before I cut back......I'm not sure how much more it would have lasted but I have little kids I have to take care of. Guest guest
The one thing I would suggest is to give it time. Give it a chance. I had immediate results with the neck pain; but the other stuff has been gradual. You up the dose and then adjust; up it again and adjust to it. Guest guest
I wasn't on Lyrica to tell much difference from it. Glad we have insurance but still it cost too much. Especially with the new rules in effect for brand name meds. When Lyrica's patent expires hopefully there will be a cheaper generic form. Guest guest
Hi, All. Regarding a lot of the posts about Lyrica, I think some of you are a bit confused on what it is and what it is used for. Lyrica is an Anti-seizure medication, NOT a " pain pill " . It's NOT type of pill that you take for times when you feel worse now and then or just during a " flare " . It has been found to relieve some of the symptom of Peripheral Neuropathic pain that some people with Fibro have. Here are a couple of sites at the Mayo that explain it. Lyrica: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/drug-information/DR601627 Peripheral neuropathy: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/peripheral-neuropathy/DS00131 Here's how it helped me: I used to feel numbness and tingling in my hands and feet with occasional " electric shocks " that would send me through the roof. My skin used to feel like it was on FIRE, also. The Lyrica has helped relieve those symptoms for me. I have worked up to 300 mg. a day and that seems like the appropriate amount for ME. Every one is different. Anyway, I hope this clarifies the use of Lyrica for Fibro for those of you who are wondering. Take care.
