Guest guest
Hi all, Hope your day is going swimmingly! Today I had to make a quick grocery run (incorporated all the buy-one- get-one-free deals I could into my meal-planning). Put stuff away and then went to Big Lots, where, lo-and-behold there was this whole new shipment of cute bubble-shaped glass votive cups. They also had little glass round saucers with formed feet on the bottom. Hmmmmm, I thought...I'm trying to learn to grow African Violets, but have lost several of the micro-minis and tiny minis due to them drying out so fast. I am one of those people who waters all plants at the same time, and keep forgetting to check the micros. So, I grabbed 8 of the cups and saucers to make little individual terrariums for my kitchen window-sill, and they look darling! Now they should thrive in that environment better, and I'll be happy to get blooms on them. Wheeeeeee! I can hope, anyhow. Now, in setting up my little kitchen window sill garden today, I tried out a few things. I've got a vacation coming up in the summer and my DH is not going to water any plants for me, period. So...I think I can get a bunch of these little votive cups to put the water and fertilizer in, and repot my regular mini African Violets with wicks in the soil, extending the wicks down into the little votive candle holders, with their pots sitting on top. Should be self-watering for 10 days or so, I believe, if I set them up correctly, the way others have posted on the garden forums. A girl can hope anyhow! So, for those who enjoy flowers year round, with less work, This one may bring a smile! girlsaylor
