Well I may be spending 2 mornings a week taking care of this little

child who is 4 years old. (I am hoping that the parents decide they

would like me to watch their child). This is going to be fun and a

challenge because this child has a comprehension delay. She is not

diagnosed with anything but the parents were told that try to use the

meathood used for teaching children with ADD.

I know several ideas to help with working on behaviours and

game/activities to work on helping her learn to concentrate.

What I was wondering is what ideas or activities have parents here

tried for remolding behaviors.

The four I want to work on are the following. I put them in order of

what I think might be a good stratagy to work on in order, but all

four would be worked on together, the last one though is more because

the weather is still kinda blagh and its too soggy to go out much mid

april here in South Western Ontario..

1. not touching in innapropreate places (i have a lot of experience

with one child at my old work that I just addored and I know this guy

made great progress on this from the time I first met him) I want to

know different stratagies. I tend to resort to gently cupping his hand

and make eye contact telling him no poking and then eventualy as he

got older and understood more I would use more explinations.

3. Jumping from idea to idea. What I noticed is that this child gets

very excited and asks questions but never waits long enough for an

answere. Any ideas on helping her slow down her thoughts and helping

her to wait for a responce?

2. Preparing this child for preschool with letter and number

recognition and helping her concentrate on one task for longer and

longer.

4. Social skills building. I have to giggle a little as im still

working on that myself but I have some good ideas for this. I was

going to suggest if the family had friends who had children maby

around 6 or 7 or a little older, to play with her to modle the

appropreate social interactions (more to help her with the poking from

a kids perspective as well, and they would be less shy and be more

understanding to a child's quirks while working on helping this child.

This child also has no fears and will go with a stranger withough any

hesitation. Anyone have this issue?
