Yay to Aubrie for doing so well.

First thought that came to mind-your Mom!

Could she stay at your home while you have to travel?

I'm going to be cliche here. I've heard there's supposed to be

enough energy for the moment in every moment, if we can just stay in it.

You know when the day comes to walk in it-you will, and you'll do it well.

So, maybe you can find some rest in that assurance, for now.

--

Let us know when mouth mold time approaches. They may offer some

distraction, like a tv. And can she breath well through her nose?

Maybe it will be a different procedure from the one I had done which took

about

7 minutes, but could have seemed much longer had I not meditated through it.

--

Does Aubrie have a PT who could call some orthotics places about an overnight

stabilizer? Or ask around for ideas? (call in the backup troops).

Sending restful vibrations,

in Ma.

HI ,

Congratulations on the BAHA!

I remember being surprised at what it looked like. Is there a mending cap

that will have to be removed when healed? I to did not realize it would take

3 months to heal.

Never thought to ask those questions.

Hope all goes well!

Thanks for all the suggestions. When time comes for the mouth mold, we'll

figure it out. As we will everything else. I'm in the place of dealing

with one thing at a time - quite literally. That's my usual MO, but

sometimes I can think ahead a bit. Not right now.

Here's a funny. I have a chalkboard for writing my to do's on in the

kitchen. There's been a heart drawn on there for ages but I couldn't recall

what for. Turns out, Aubrie was due for a heart check about 6 months ago.

Oh well. It's not a crisis cuz she's doing exceptionally well there. Just

something to add to the summer appts.

The first week or two the site is the nastiest; once the healing cap comes

off, it gets better. It's pretty gross, I agree. I hope she does well with

it. We had to send K's Divino in again for repair (I'm not happy with the

digital BAHA - I think they need to work on the bugs...the Classic we had

before that seems MUCH more reliable). It will be great for Kennedy to see

another friend with a BAHA at the conference.

Hope everything works out for the best, good to hear from you.

I know Aubrie will be glad to see a friend with it too!

The one she has now - loaner - has been great. I wonder which model it is.

I'm guessing Classic since it's probably 2 yrs old or so. Luckily, she can

hear fairly well without any amplification so it won't be critically bad

when it's malfunctioning - but the point is to have it working.

Cathie-

Yes, there is a cap. We take it off for cleaning daily. I don't know how

long until it stays off. We go back on Friday (one week post-op) so we'll

find out the next steps then. I think that is when the cap comes off and we

begin the regular cleaning routine.

Glad everything went well. I thought you know it was about 4 months for the

ossilation period. Sorry you were disappointed, but it is worth the wait.

You can talk right into the sight, (I know it sounds crazy), and she should

be able to hear you. needs me to talk in a very low voice when I do

it. We obviously don't rely on that, but it's a goof that he can hear

something. He thinks it's funny.

I remember seeing the dent in the skull and sort of freaking out, like, what

did I do, but now it's just " normal " .

Aubrie's BAHA

Hi-

I've been barely keeping up with everyone lately. Just really busy here.

Aubrie had her BAHA implant put in on Thursday. She's such a trooper! She

did great. The site looks good. I think everything's going just fine. I

didn't realize how nasty the site would look. Almost looks like he carved a

small chunk out of her skull. Maybe it won't look like that when it's

healed. I also didn't know that we would have to wait at least 3 months to

begin using the BAHA. Argh. I was hoping for 6 weeks. Oh well.

Also had a dental cleaning on Friday. She threw up all the way home - I

think just from the trauma of the cleaning. We've been waiting for her

molars to come in enough to put on metal bands to hold a speech prosthesis -

palatal lift. They are finally in. Not such good news for me cuz I'm

feeling overwhelmed lately with the hip problems at night and the BAHA. I

was feeling so bad for having to add another apparatus to her arsenal. The

prosthesis will be difficult to adjust to because you have to get over the

initial gag reflex when wearing it. Not to mention the trauma of sitting

still for the bands to be put on her teeth. Then having a mold taken of

your mouth. Lots of visits back and forth to the prosthedontist who is 2+

hrs away. So I was debating if it was worth it. Her speech has been

improving with her increased hearing. I asked her what she thought. Oh -

it is a problem that most people can't understand her speech so she wants to

go for it. Gotta love that kid. I mean, I'm worn out at the thought of it

and it's not even happening to me!

What I have to figure out is how to accommodate all of these appointments

with working and keeping attention to her brother. He won't want to join us

on all these dr visits over the summer but I won't want to leave him home

alone all the time either. Could be a struggle to balance everything. Wish

me luck. Right now, I'm not feeling much confidence as a mom.

Prayers to all the families needing it - and to those who are doing fine -

let's hope we all do as fine as possible every step of the way!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I hope Aubrie loves the thing once it's

usable. Were you able to use the softband while the site healed?

Michele,

You have so many things going on. It might seem hard to put Aubrie through

all that but I know she will thank you when she is an adult. If she isn't

complaining then don't worry so much. (Easy advice to give, hard to take!) I

am looking forward to hearing more about her BAHA.

About the sibling thing. I am sure you are doing what is right for both

your children. Again, don't worry too much. You can only do what you can do.

Love goes a long way in life.

Best wishes!
