Guest guest
I posted a couple weeks ago wondering what was up because I felt so hypo but my doctor thought my problem was too *much* meds -- I was on 25 mg HC ad 2.5 grains Armour. Val you thought I had something keeping me from using my thyroid, and you were right. I take an extended release HC (allergic to some filler in Cortef, I forget what) and had two different 'alternative' doctors really upset with me for taking 25mg, but for each doc I tried to lower the dose and just couldn't handle it. My acupuncturist told me my 'stomach' was really weak and empty and I should be taking digestive enzymes, so I went and got a real cheap enzyme mix with hydrochloric acid and ox bile and pancreatic enzymes . . . .. Within 36 hours I was 180 degrees from where I had been. I had a thyroid dump and couldn't tolerate my Armour at all for almost 3 days. Suddenly I could tolerate exercise, my temperatures stabilized to within 0.2 degrees (on each reading, not just averages) for days at a time, pounding heart went away, my blood pressure went up 10 points (yay!), blood pressure now always rises on standing, sleep improved so much I now only need tryptophan & GABA, and to confirm I dropped the dinner time dose of cortisol and felt no effects where twice previously I had tried and could not function or sleep. So now I'm down to 20 mg for a week and feel fine. The " something " not letting me use my thyroid was too low cortisol because I wasn't actually absorbing much of the HC I was taking. (Or any of the iron or vitamins or other things I was taking -- I'm sure it all helped.) So if there's anybody else out there on extended release HC -- you may want to try some digestive support to get the full benefit of it! And if some bad food gives you the runs keep in mind you may be flushing more than you're absorbing. :-| One other unexpected thing that happened was that my daily temperatures actually went down. I feel unmistakably better, my symptoms of hypo went away, but my actual body temperature went down from 98.4 to 98.1. Any one else have this happen? I know Dr Lowe says he doesn't follow body temps because he finds some people can get their tissue responses & metabolic rate up and even become asymptomatic but body temp just still low. Maybe he's only talking about basal. Maybe properly nourished the body can decide to use the T3 for other things besides heat? Anyway, thought it was an interesting experience worth sharing and Thanks for your input -- better than any of the doctor's input I've gotten so far. :-) (Though the acupuncturist was really helpful.)
