Guest guest
Thanks for advice Cherie Today I dosed 7.5 mg @ 7:30 am, 5 mg @ 11 am, 5 mg @ 1:30 pm, and 2.5 mg @ 3:30 pm and felt much better- much less dizziness and less hypogycemia. I don't think I do very with with going more than 3.5 hours between doses. My saliva results showed a little high @ nite so I haven't been taking any at bed. Do you think I should try 2.5 mg? Tomorrow I'm going to up my AM to 10 mg so if I try a nitetime dose, I won't try it for several more days. I've been really careful to ramp up slowly but I think I am extra sensitive due to the surgical hypothryoidism for the last 4 years. > > Hi Lexie, > > Sorry, I just saw this e-mail after I sent my reply. Guest guest
You might want to add the 2.5 mg bedtime dose tomorrow, then wait before going to 10 mg as your first morning dose. If my understanding is correct the higher that first dose, the lower your own cortisol the rest of the day and overnight. If that is right, I suggest supporting night cortisol with a bedtime dose before going higher in the am. I could be wrong, and I don't remember your labs at all. sol alexa_k_carroll wrote: > Today I dosed 7.5 mg @ 7:30 am, 5 mg @ 11 am, 5 mg @ 1:30 pm, and 2.5 > mg @ 3:30 pm and felt much better- much less dizziness and less > hypogycemia. Guest guest
-Hi. Thanks for the input. I didn't read your post till tonight so instead tried 10 mg this AM and felt pretty good today, esp considering that I also started my period today. And my temps were pretty stable. (Until today, my 11 am temp has often been .5 - 1.0 degrees less than my 3 pm temp) Last nite I took one isocort pill at bed (which for me is significantly less strong than 2.5 mg of HC) and it seemed to help. I might try that again tonite. Guest guest
Usually what is happening when the cortisol is low during the day and a bit high at night is that the pituitary is sending out ACTH all day asking for cortisol. It keeps sending it out since the adrenals aren't able to keep up with it's request. Then the adrenals finally kick in late at night and produce too much for that time of day. When you start taking HC, the ACTH levels go down and so should your nighttime cortisol levels. I would add the nighttime dose after a couple of days unless youstart feeling low cortisol symptoms later at night. For instance, I was starving at midnight. Some people wake up with adrenaline rushes and have to stress dose and eat something. HTH. Rie A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. Guest guest
Good info! I've been noticing in myself exactly what you are describing, now that I've been on HC a couple of weeks. So if in the past I've been low all day and high at nite, now that things are leveling out, if I add a small dose of HC at nite should I skip taking PS at nite? I've tried the PS here and there, with limited success. Is it okay to take melatonin at nite with HC? thanks for your help! -- In NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS , " Cherie " wrote: > > Usually what is happening when the cortisol is low during the day and a bit > high at night is that the pituitary is sending out ACTH all day asking for > cortisol. Guest guest
I doubt you need the PS. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try a dose of 2.5mg at bedtime and see how it goes. I'm not sure about melatonin, but I don't think it would hurt anything. Does anyone else know? Guest guest
I've taken melatonin for a few years now, and didn't change or stop it when I started HC. No problems I'm aware of. In fact, I need the melatonin to get to sleep at all. It doesn't keep me asleep, but does allow me to fall asleep in the first place. I only take a minimal dose though, 250 mcg to 500mcg. More than that it gives me nightmares or too vivid weird dreams, and I wake up with a headache. sol Cherie wrote: > I doubt you need the PS. Guest guest
Thank you! I take a 2.5 mg sublingal melatonin pill - I need that much to fall asleep. Once in a while I have vivid dreams, but not often. > > I've taken melatonin for a few years now, and didn't change or stop it > when I started HC. > No problems I'm aware of.
