Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I'm sure many of you will remember Lynn and her daughter . Last week I received Lynn's membership renewal and I emailed her for an update on . Here is her reply which she asked me to share with the List. If you want to send her a message you will have to do it off line. Her email is Lynn M lynnelen@...> n --- Re: CHARGE / SARAH MOORE Date: Sun, 20 May 2007 21:51:25 -0400 Reply-To: Lynn M lynnelen@...> To: n Norbury mnorbury@...> References: 464DDE86.1080801@...> n, I would have to write a book to update the CHARGE group, but I will try to condense it into something readable. has completed three years of college. She changed majors twice and decided on Nursing School. June 2006 she wasn't accepted into the University of Akron Nursing program on the " first round " .( it would be another year before she had another chance to get in. She was very disappointed. She was told they look at science grades. She had As and Bs in Chemistry I and II. She had an A in biology and an A in Microbiology. The problem was, there were 300 applicants for 180 spaces. Many must have had straight As. She did an amazing job in college none the less. After much soul searching and thinking, she and her then boyfriend decided to change gears completely. They went to school for 6 weeks to earn their Class A CDL in order to team drive a semi/tractor, trailer. Long story, but the boyfriend dropped out of the " on the job " training in Joplin, MO. (She also dropped the boy friend, to her parents liking) stayed with her training at the encouragement of her trucker/trainer that she was driving with to gain experience. He told her she was the best female rookie he had ever trained. In talking with others, she learned that he really meant it. She had high scores on her written test, and practiced and practiced with her rig. spent November, December 2006 and January 2007 driving, with her puppy Rupert, chris-crossing the country making deliveries. She said it was an experience she will never forget or regret doing, however, she had some nerve racking and scary experiences too. She turned a lot of heads when a 5'3 " woman climbed out of her truck by herself. She said she met all kinds of wonderful people all over the country. She was in Loraido, TX nice and warm when we were snowed in. She told a story of sleeping in the truck in northern TX and being awakened by tumbleweeds hitting the truck in high winds. What she didn't know was that the company she worked for was notorious for hiring young ( she's 22) newly licensed drivers, working them for their three months probation, then finding any little thing to " let them go " just before their insurance starts. had had a few, minor problems, and a couple slightly serious problems. She was let go in February of 2007. Another long story from trucking to living in Utica, NY. She now had a new boyfriend that she met through a friend. She has applied to a two year RN school in Utica, but hasn't heard anything yet. She's working full time at a Verizon call center to make ends meet. We are so amazed at her independence. She just keeps forging ahead. She's made mistakes and learned from them and seems to know how to just keep trying. She continues to have respiratory infections, and ear infections but as of right now she has no other issues to deal with other than medication for anxiety. She still wants little to do with CHARGE, but acknowledges she is aware of it if she should ever need more medical attention or information. I am still teaching Junior High Special Education. I love my job but do look forward to summers off. I have been well except for orthopedic problems. Summer of 2005 I had a walking cast on my left foot for what are now permanent tendon problems. I wear a stiff brace daily. I'm still walking so I can deal with it. July 2006 fell and broke my right wrist. I am right handed so it wasn't fun. I was in a cast for 7 weeks, started school with it. Rehab. was very painful but my wrist works fairly well. I still have pain and stiffness because of all over arthritis. I really can't complain, at almost 56 I still keep active. My husband is fine. We enjoy living in the country. Best wishes to the CHARGE family. Have a great conference this summer. I really don't have time for the list, but feel free to email me personally. lynnelen@... .
