Guest guest
- I remember that you were considering Cued Speech. I'd really like to hear about it. Please give us occasional updates. I just loved the whole idea when I attended a workshop. I learned more about the differences of Cued Speech and VP. But you know what, I can't remember what the person told me!! Anyway - they are quite similar but quite different as well. I think the biggest difference is the intended use. Cued Speech is meant as a communication system. VP is meant as an instructional tool. While they both have visual/manual representation of the phonemes, the premise of the systems are very different. Here's a " woo woo " coincidence. Aubrie's speech teacher gave me the initial info about VP months ago but I never checked into it. The other day, she sent home Aubrie's workbook which prompted me to check it out. The next day, I went to Aubrie's awards program, stopped to speak to the speech teacher, found out that ISD is holding a VP workshop this summer, and now it's possible that our local teacher and SLP can attend that local training for free! If I'd have checked VP out months ago, I'd never have asked and found out about the workshop, etc. Now I'm just hoping it works out that someone here can attend. You know how the summer is, the local folks could be on their summer vacation and totally unable to attend. But what a great opportunity! I have not heard of Visual Phonics before but am interested. We have decided to pursue Cued Speech for Adele. I know they are not the same but the phonics part is similar. We have not gotten very far learning cued speech but hope to be in full force by fall. Please keep me posted how it goes for Aubrie. By the way, I LOVE that Aubrie made a presentation to her class. So cute and so smart! -- (mom to Adele 3, and Margo 8 mo.) www.brandrup.com username: baby password: sugar
