Guest guest
Hi - This is a re-post, because I didn't get any responses before, and I keep searching the archives, but am having trouble because the many posts I have looked at are people who start the day with low cortisol, whereas my morning level is the only one decently in range and then just decreases: 8am - 15.4 (12-22) 12pm - 2.6 (4-8) 4pm - 1.9 (3-7) 12am - 1.1 (1-3) If I try to take three isocort at once I get a horrid headache. I am wondering if my morning dose should actually be lighter, and then increasing during the day (contrary to body rhythms, but otherwise won't I have too much cortisol in the early part of the day?). If there is anyone here who has dealt with test results like these and has an idea how to dose, or knows anyone who used to post here who did, please let me know, because I am coming up with too many hits in the archive, and even when I try to wade through I am finding advice for people who start the day low. (I'm also taking 1/2 grain armour in the morning and midday per my physician). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Guest guest
The minute you start taking any cortisol supplement, it changes your own cortisol output, so you dose it to mimic a natural, tapered rhythm. You cannot simply take 3 Iso in the morning and stop. When your body senses the Iso you took, it then lowers its own production for the rest of the day. The directions for ramping up hydrocortisone or Isocort to 20 mg a day are in the files section under " How to Treat Low Cortisol " . How and why to graph your temps are explained at http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp Once they level out and stop fluctuating (the daily averages are no more than .2 degrees difference from day to day for 3-4 days), you have enough HC to start or increase thyroid. Guest guest
Hi Barb, I tried to take three in the morning, and then two midday, then one later. The three cause my head to throb, and that's why I started wondering if maybe I was just overloading my morning cortisol. The other problem is that I am still so *exhausted* from the middle of the day through the evening. Do I just have to push through the headaches (I have read your other posts where you say the headaches are due to the hypothyroidism) - and carry on with the cortisol until I get the proper stability in my temps? Thanks a lot for helping, > > > > > > Hi - > > > > This is a re-post, because I didn't get any responses before, and I > > keep searching the archives, but am having trouble because the many > > posts I have looked at are people who start the day with low > cortisol, > > whereas my morning level is the only one decently in range and then > > just decreases: > > > > 8am - 15.4 (12-22) > > 12pm - 2.6 (4-8) > > 4pm - 1.9 (3-7) > > 12am - 1.1 (1-3) > > > > If I try to take three isocort at once I get a horrid headache. Guest guest
Well if your temps aren't stable yet, then yes, you still need to continue increasing the Iso. A throbbing head could be low thyroid, but you can't increase that till you get temps stable. Apparently you're tolerating one grain already? If so, you could play with the dosing. Try 1/4 grain 4 times per day instead of 1/2 grain twice a day. Might give you just enough coverage to carry you through the day. Also, the smaller the thyroid dose, the less stress on your adrenals, so it's easier for you to handle.
