Guest guest
E-mail Dr. Blake, and ask her to write a well documented letter that states that Chargers deaf/blind don't necessary do things in order. It might help you. Sincerely yours; Krista. Joanne Lent Joannelent@...> wrote: I can't believe what I'm reading. Eddie's new IEP LOWERS the bar. Guest guest
I am not sure where you are from but I teach Life Skills in Texas. You have the right to have another IEP/ARD meeting if you are not satisified with the IEP's. The teacher is suppost to send you a copy at least a week to 3 days before the meeting so that when you get to the meeting you can discuss. I wish I could be there with you because I will argue for the PECS. When I have a non-veral student, either at the goal or at the bottom where how you are going to evaluate I always put " may use PECS, pictures, hand over hand, any communication device. I like to cover everything. I hope this helps, &, parents to twins: Olivia : potty training, walking, running the house, talking, saying no all the time and JD(cHArgE: Choanal Atresia, Heart Repair, TE-F Repair, G-Tube, Trach, on CPap w/ O2 at Night, severe to profound hearing loss, dumping syndrome ) 21 months, Waxahachie, Texas ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Joanne, This is Betsy from DB-LINK. We have a collection of articles about communication on our web site. Go to http://dblink.org/lib/topics/topics.cfm and scroll down to communication. This will lead you to many full text articles. I will highlight a few. Expressive Communication: How Children Send Their Messages to You a DB-LINK fact sheet. This publication contains the Expressive Communication Map which can be used as a guide to: determine the ways in which your child is able to communicate with you right now. (Current) determine the way or ways in which your child can be taught to communicate during the next year. (IEP Objectives) determine the ways your child might be able to communicate in the future. (Visionary Planning) http://www.dblink.org/lib/express.htm Developing Communication Systems That Meet Everyone's Needs from CA offers guidance on how to design functional communication systems for students. http://www.sfsu.edu/~cadbs/Fall00.pdf Communication Matrix is designed to help parents determine where the child's current skill level is and how to proceed to the next skill level. http://www.communicationmatrix.org/en/ Check these out and see if they help. Guest guest
Hi Joanne, I am not sure if I have missed the time on this, but I don't think they can really take things out of Eddie's IEP without your consent. Especially when communication is involved. If PECS are in there and he is already using M-J pics as part of his expressive (and receptive) communication system, then this would not give him access--it is part of his total communication access including signs, gestures, pictures, objects, etc, right? Good luck and keep us posted. pam New IEP LOWERS the bar. Help! I can't believe what I'm reading. Eddie's new IEP LOWERS the bar. I've got until Monday night to prepare and I need help.
