Guest guest
Well, it happened. They said it would. In many ways we wish it never had to be. But, of course, the kids are ready to move on to something new. So, and 18 other seniors had a whooping good time this afternoon, as they graduated from high school. We had a great time too, with a luncheon following and lots of time for hugs and goodbyes, and promises to come back to visit, sooner rather than later. And, with cars all packed up, and young people overflowing with positive expectancy, we all move on to something new. , the senior class president, broke down during his speech, when he spoke about leaving so many who had been dear friends, teachers and mentors. And we all broke down with him. These kids have had something very special. They have helped each other, taught each other, sometimes led, and sometimes followed. They've learned that preserving friendship is much more valuable than being right. They learned to build value in themselves by valuing another, and to recognize value that others might miss. They learned they don't have to take the easy way, that they can trust themselves to aspire to more, and that there is success inherent in trying more than one time or more than one way, or in asking for assistance sometimes. You could see in their faces that each had found their light within, and in knowing and trusting their own strengths, could embrace the world and the future in trust. It has been a very special day. ;-) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Guest guest
Oh, , Congradulations on 's big day and ditto to her! We missed the ceremony for because a house opened for her in Missouri, and I've always been sorry about that. Perkins is such a special, special place, and it's hard to leave. Andy and I have learned, however, that the ties and personal contacts remain long after the festivities. Someone on staff once told me that once a Perkinite, always a Perkinite. They'll always be there if you or Diane needs them. I don't think we will ever really leave. Best wishes to all! Guest guest
, Congratulations to you and of course to ! I am reading this thinking ahead already to the future as my little guy Felix (15 months) just started Perkins low vision playgroup a few months ago. We are scheduled to visit the Deafblend preschool in two weeks. Our experience so far has been great and we look forward to connecting with some other CHARGE families in the Deafblind program. It is really heartwarming to hear what a great experience it has been for your family. (in Acton, MA) > > Well, it happened. Guest guest
As wrote, the Perkins graduation was a spectacle of exuberance. And while LInda did not focus on her own princess, I have to tell you she was a delightful presence on the stage. And...so gracious and wonderful to another graduate (from the Deafblind program; graduated from the Secondary Services Program) who is not as skilled as she. When he got presented with an award, she shared his (and his parents) surprise and glee at the award by clapping loudly for him and patting him on the shoulder to show her support. It was lovely to see her excitement for him. , I think your description of the day was beautiful in it's poetry. pam Perkins class of '07 graduated today Well, it happened. They said it would. Guest guest
Hi Pam, It was an awesome day, wasn't it? I've just returned home from the weekend, so didn't know you were having pinched nerve troubles-awful. But I want to assure you, you were stellar on stage, didn't miss a beat, had everything organized and flowing, and no one would have ever guessed you were having any troubles. The entire beauty of the day reflected your touch. ;-) Is summer session less harried? Are you back with us for awhile? (I haven't made it thru all the posts yet-if you said so already) Anyway, I'm taking a big page from Martha's book and hanging on to Perkinite (perkineese) status for as long as you all let me! Thank you for all you do for all the kids and families. ;-) in Ma. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
, better late than never....It was a great day!!!! the kids were so great and they all (well, most of them) seemed so happy to be exactly where they were.And..I must comment about your lovely daughter now, too. I don't kow if you noticed, but when the young man next to her (from my program) got his award and his diploma, she was right there clapping for him and patting him on his back. It was sooo sweet and I was so moved by her exuberance and tenderness with him. He often moved himself in such a way that she got bumped, but she never complained. At one point during practice we told her she could nudge him to remind him to keep his space. She said, " Thank you, but I will not tell him that. He should be as comfortable as he can be " So very sweet. And...during th ceremony,I was fine.. the spasm did not start until I got home (thank goodness for small things!)thanks for your nice words. And hold on to Martha's book--we are going nowhere. (although I have to say that I have not been very good lately about writing in Martha's book!!). xo pam Re: Perkins class of '07 graduated today Hi Pam, It was an awesome day, wasn't it? Guest guest
Thank you Lori, ;-) I'm collecting best wishes, to be ready for September. We have intentions towards one class that we can't even register for till July. Nor do we know the schedule to know if she could add more in. Ah well, an uncertain future is a big deal???? haha. Nope. Not in Chargeland. ;-) in Ma. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
