Sodium 137 133-145 MEQ/L

Potassium 3.8 3.5-5.1 MEQ/L

Both of these are too low. I have NEVER seen a range that low ffor sodium!

Usually 138 or 139 is th e lowest and yours would be in the red zopne. Havign

low sodium yourbody willlose potassium to keep a balkance, which it looks liek

what it is doing. For now I would get some sea salt and start with 1/2 tsp twice

a day and eat some high potassium foods such as bananas and orange juice. But i

woiul dsuggest getting aldosterone tested to find out if this is causing you to

lose too much salt. Drinking a glass of sea salted water at bedtime should help

you retain the fkl,uid overnight so you are not up going to the bathroom as

much. Frequent night time urination is a symptoms of low aldosterone. The low

sodium and low potassium can be dangerous for your heart as these two minerls

are responsible for how it beats.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I have been adding sea salt to my

water... 1 tsp per water bottle. Should I add more salt than that?

How much are you drinking per day? If over 2 tsp per day you definitley

need aldosterone tested. But yes from your labs it would not hurt to

take more. But be certain you eat potassium rich foods with that to keep

it balanced.

I'm trying to drink 3 bottles of salted water per day, so that would be

close to 3 tsp. of salt.

Then you almost definitely have a problem wiht low aldosteorne. That is

alot of sal tto consume to have those labs still that low which means

your body is not able to hold on to it.

Hi ,

Thank you so much for all your help. I'm going to my adrenal fatigue

MD on Tuesday, and I will have her check all these things out ASAP.

I don't know if others are tuned in, but I've been following your

situation, Donna, and this one is a real lesson to me -- about

misleading lab ranges!

What a mindless system. When I read that you were up all night peeing,

and then that you take 3t of salt a day ... Good grief! And the

hospital ER can't find any clues!

I've told many many health care professionals about my similar

symptoms, in the vain hope that someone would say, " Oh, you've got XXX

going on! "

Val has made it clear to me, bless her heart, that my symptom cluster

near the beginning of my cycle is from low aldosterone: it's a

combined " pee spree " /dehydration/headache/hypoglycemia/fatigue.

I didn't realize until I started lurking on this forum and reading the

STTM site that low aldosterone can cause fatigue just like low

cortisol can. I also didn't realize that aldosterone can dive at the

beginning of your cycle when progesterone is low.

So how many women have " menstrual headaches " and nobody can help them?

Thanks, Val. You've done it again. --

As my son would say, " DadGUM " .

I just started my cycle last night, and I am sort of clueless as to

how all these hormones interact with each other. I ALWAYS feel

crummy around my period, especially when it's a full moon as well.

I don't think I mentioned the salt to the ER doc; now I wish I had.

It wasn't until Val mentioned about low aldosterone that I put the 2

things together. The ER doc, while very nice, and somewhat

sympathetic, did say that my labs were " pristine " .

Since Val clued me in on my " normal " sodium range, I faxed my lab

reports to my CFS/adrenal fatigue MD and also to my primary care MD

with a note saying that shouldn't my sodium level be HIGHER, since

I'm taking in so much salt every for weeks on end? I think the

sodium would be sky-high if everything was normal.

Thanks for replying. It is good to know (unfortunately!?) that other

people are in the same boat.

Best in health to you!
