Yes, 75 mg. is a huge dose, therefor why you were sleepy!? As an ob-gyn I use

10-25 mg. daily, taking 5 days off per month.? Progesterone has as ability to

accumulate in the fatty tissues and therefor should be retested after 2-3 monthe

to be sure the level is not too high.? the ovaries when in good shape make

around 20 mg. per day.???? Geri Geszler

Geri/others,

My doc has me on 100 mg progesterone (pill form) made at a compounding

pharmacy, nightly. Is that too much? It sounds like you said 75 mg is

even a huge dose!! He usually gives 200 mg but gave me less b/c I am

sensitive. I've only been on it 3 days, but have seen no probs so far

(it may be in fact helping with my terrible insomnia).

FYI, my test results showed 2.70 ug/L (normal being 1.7 - 27 during

the luteal phase which I think it was for me). The doc said he wants

to raise me to 10. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Esp from those

on this posting - they seem to know a lot more from clinical/real

experience than my doctor sometimes!

thanks,

metta

I was once put on 100-200 mg natural progesterone in pill form and

told by the doctor, that due to digestion, approximately only 50% is

actually absorbed....thus the high dose.

I have also read that only about 10-20% is used after it passes through

the liver. He has changed me to 100 mg on days 12-26. Will see how it

goes and hopefully won't end up E dominant. My last progesterone test

was at 1.4 in follicular stage and he still thought that was low since

I take Progesterone.

He retests my hormones every couple of months. If the lowering of P

doesn't help with the daily sleepiness, he wants to try AD which I

really don't want to try. The last time a doctor tried this on me I

tok for one day and felt so out of it, I didn't continue.

My 1/30/08 levels are

Testosterone 82 (14-76) dosage lowered

Free Testosterone 1.7 (.0-2.2)

Estradiol 156 (64-183) or (150-528) Was on day 9,cycle 26 days.

Total Estrogens 228 61-394

Progesterone 1.4 (.2-1.4 or 3.3-25.6)

DHEA 304 (110-554) this keeps dropping

Thanks for any input.
