Guest guest
Guys I am sorry about the last email. I thought it went through. JD went to Childrens Medical Center Dallas today for a CT scan of his head, nose and sinuses. This was planned as Dr. Orval Brown (JD's ENT) needed it to allow him to see what else needs to be done for his choanal atresia repair and to see if what he was able to get done has still remained open. JD was put under anesthesia around 1 pm today at Childrens in Radiology and the CT scan took about an hour. He then went to a recovery room in Radiology for about two hours and came home. JD did well and didn't have any problems at all. It seems being put under anesthesia is a walk in the park for him. We will take JD to visit with Dr. Brown soon to see the results of this scan and possibly discuss JD's next nose repair. JD continues to make slow improvements also as he is off the vent for four hours a day twice a day for a total of eight hours. We have also been able to successfully wean JD off of his oxygen for sleep apnea at night by two hours. As of now he is getting around 7 hours of Oxygen at night at about 1/16 of a liter or what I like to call just a mere " wisp " which is about 22%. JD has been having O2 saturations of 95% or higher for about a week now. Besides Dr. Brown, he will see his eye doctor, his GI doctor, go to vent clinic with Dr. Gelfand, see his general surgeon Dr. Renard, and go to therapy two times a week all in the month of July. So JD will be a very busy boy. Olivia is doing well also. She is learning the alphabet now and is doing well at it. She has a favorite TV show on the Childrens Channel called Dora the Explorer. She also likes Sesame Street and she still likes to watch baseball on TV. She has also taken a liking to her Daddys Playstation 2. We believe that Olivia is extremely intelligent. Her pediatrician, Dr. Joslin has stated to us that Olivia is very advanced for her age. Her vocabulary is increasing too. She has a tendency to call some of her relatives from time to time but this week she hasnt called any. But the week is still quite young. We honestly cannot figure out how she is doing it. Olivia has graduated from her crib. She has a new bed which is a little bed I guess you could call it and she loves it. Olivia has also graduated to big people foods. She is developing a liking to french fries like her mother. Today, she had Catfish for lunch and she loved it. She has developed a liking for tomatoes. She is also becoming quite protective of her brother JD and wants to help her mother and daddy take care of him. We are beginning to let JD and Olivia play together and they both are responding really well. It is very surprising to us just how fast Olivia is learning things. She has two new friends now in the house in Touchdown, our dog who she calls Puppy and TJ, our cat who she calls Kitty. As you can see she really is doing well. I went and saw Dr. Brad Gamble (ENT) this week concerning my nose. Many of you do not realize that I have frequent sinusitis and allergies and earlier in the spring I had two very bad sinus infections which lasted for quite some time. Dr. Gamble is Mandy's doctor and I have seen the very good work that he did with her last Choanal atresia repair. He is considered one of the top doctors in his field in the City of Dallas and in the State of Texas. I had been informed in an earlier visit to my personal physician, Dr. Adell that I had severe nasal polyps. Dr. Gamble examined me on Tuesday afternoon with Mandy present and confirmed what I feared was the worst in that these polyps are very bad. He wants to remove these polyps surgically and has asked me to get a CT scan of my sinuses and I will do that in the coming days. I have consented to the surgical procedure to be done by him and it will be done soon. This is a problem (these polyps and recurrent sinus infections) that I have had since I was in college or for almost 20 years. I dont have very much air moving through my nostrils because of these polyps. They are very large. I havent had the ability to smell a lot since I was in college. We have tried the medicine route and topical medicine route and it is not helping very much. Dr. Gamble has informed me that this procedure will take about 3 to 3 1/2 hours to remove these polyps and clear my sinuses. This surgery is considered very serious and can be risky. But it needs to be done. It needs to be done for the sake of my children. It needs to be done so I will no longer have frequent sneezing and sinus infections and constantly worry about passing it on to Olivia, my wife or even my critically ill son, JD. I do not need to be a stumbling block in JD's progress and Olivia progress with her asthma. I am quite worried about this surgery but I have no other choice if I want to rid myself of this. Mandy is in support of this surgery and agrees with me that we need to get this problem behind me. I have turned my trust over to God that He will get me through this and guide Dr. Gamble as he operates on my nose and sinuses. God will take care of me as He always has and His will will be accomplished. I do not know what all Dr. Gamble will have to do in this surgery and neither does he just yet. When I have the CT scan we will know exactly what the procedure will entail. It is possible that Dr. Gamble will also have to flush my sinuses. We ask for your continued prayers for JD and Olivia. They are miracles and continue to thrive and grow in their own time frame and in their own way. We will update you more when we know more. Until then we remain servants to a risen Lord who is Christ Jesus. We remain forever In His Grip. &, parents to twins: Olivia : potty training, walking, running the house, talking, saying no all the time and JD(cHArgE: Choanal Atresia, Heart Repair, TE-F Repair, G-Tube, Trach, on CPap w/ O2 at Night, severe to profound hearing loss, dumping syndrome ) 21 months, Waxahachie, Texas _www.chargesyndrome.org_ (http://www.charge/) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
