Guest guest
Just another instance of showing she is very good at adapting: She also would smell flowers - without inhaling, I might add! - and tell us " smells pretty " . She had observed and understood that she saw people smile when they sniffed flowers, so she should too. She still will tell us she " smells " things, when she really makes no notice if she doesn't see the item making the smell. (EX: Onions: I can cut them and still smell them 3 hours later. She has no clue unless she sees me " crying " when chopping them that there is anything in the air. And I think that her smell must be extremely limited if not non-existent, because onions are powerful in their odor and resultant stinging eyes.) Friends in CHARGE, Marilyn Ogan _____ From: CHARGE [mailto:CHARGE ] On Behalf Of Yuka Persico Sent: Monday, July 02, 2007 10:14 PM To: CHARGE Subject: Martha Re: New poll for CHARGE ) thought he could smell too - I guess that makes sense because he's never known different. We put some different essential oils in cups and some empty cups and had him sniff them, and his responses were more than arbitrary..... have you ever tired that? (I think we used lemon flavoring, mint oil, vinegar, water, milk -) He can get the other sensations (burning). He is specifically prohibited from being a biochemist because of his lack of smell. Interesting stories from Anatomy and Physiology about his lack of smell - not minding the smell of rot, formaldehyde and stuff like that....... smiles- yuka Re: New poll for CHARGE I wonder if this sort of thing (in 's case, texture) is why she won't touch puddings or applesauce or anything similar? I'm pretty sure she can differentiate smells --- unless she " smells " the flowers we grow because Andy and I do. Guest guest
also has no sense of smell though he has a very good sense of taste. When he first started eating by mouth at the age of 5 it was like starting a baby eating. We started with baby foods building our way up to solids. It seemed to take a few months before he started experiencing the different tastes of the foods. Sorta like awaking his taste buds. Over the years he has developed quite a likening for sweets. Oh heck he has a likening for anything that doesn't try to eat him first. You will all be witness to this in Ca. so keep yourselves at a safe distance while he is eating. Guest guest
used to 'smell' flowers and other stuff too when he was little.. no matter what he was smelling the answer was always the same.. We called it the flavor of the month because he'd change his answer about once a month.
