Guest guest
Has anyone had any luck putting your child into daycare and leaving he/she there? Trinity is supposed to start next Monday so I can go back to my job that I've been gone from for 6 months. We are petrified she's going to spit up like a fountain so much that they will tell us they can't take her anymore. As it is they are putting her in a classroom for 3 months and under or under 6 months or something like that just because of her physical limitations. If we have to pull her out I'm going to have to quit my job and I guess apply for social security for a while. Any advice? We're just anticipating the worst case scenario right now. Thank you, Mommy to Gracie 23 months and Trinity 6 months CHARGE --------------------------------- Take the Internet to Go: Yahoo!Go puts the Internet in your pocket: mail, news, photos & more. Guest guest
Krista, you give GREAT advice. , make sure they have good instructions (I wrote a one page " how to " for Kennedy back in the day and laminated it - sometimes things have a way of getting lost/ripped/messy at daycares). She went for socialization purposes when she was three years old because I quit my job when she was born, but I realize not everyone can do that. I also had a laminated card that I attached with a carabiner clip to her bag that went back & forth; it had all my contact info, emergency contact info, and on the other side her medic alert info so wherever she went, that card went. She still has this on her school book bag going into grade four now! If it's possible, start going in a little bit now with her to get her (and you and them!) ready. I also made a binder for Kennedy for school that was more detailed than the one page " must know " stuff, that I broke into sections so they could read more and understand more. Will she have a 1:1 aide? Good luck, I know all of this is so very stressful. > > If they are understanding, then I believe she'll be alright. Guest guest
We put Sam in daycare, WITH an apnea monitor!!!- when he was 7 weeks old, much to my dismay- but it was financially necessary. it was awful; he promptly came home after a few days when the staff finally freaked out about the monitor. We worked with the company to train the staff to use it, and in the meantime sam had another surgery, and then he went back and things were ok. Days when the apnea monitor would go off, I thought for sure he would be kicked out. when he was having difficulty breathing, there was another surgery, and talk of narrow trachea and possible needing a trach, they prepped me again for the possibility of being kicked out. When we finally got the apnea monitor discontinued and i calmed everyone down about his breathing issues, things were even better. There was a few episodes of " choking " , and they are really over protective of him when any little thing goes wrong, but it's with his best interests at heart. Now, daycare is AWESOME, and I have to give them tons and tons of credit (of course, the daycare is on site at the special ed school I work at, so I am right down the hall if they need me, and besides- it's special ed, they should be accepting of his needs....) I'm optimistic that if they can meet sam's needs, other places can help your daughter too. He gets early intervention services 4 times a week at school with his teachers. There is a nurse on-site that is a big help. I also gave them portions of the charge manual and info on sam, in a book and also in a quick one-page " Sam Cheat Sheet " that seemed to help. Currently, it is looking like he will be held back in the younger room due to his gross motor delay and to assure his safety (smaller staff-student ratio in younger rooms), and that's a tough decision but we're all working together as a team to figure it out. Anyways, what I mean to say, is we did it and it was really really hard in the beginning, but it has worked out for the best and we just made the best of a situation we had to deal with (sound familiar?) and now I am so grateful for all the social and educational opportunities he has at daycare every day. If you do decide to send her to daycare, be cautious that they can meet her needs, but also don't discriminate against her needs- it's a tough balance... Guest guest
Vision is impaired somewhat. Hearing is good to go. She is not developmentally on track as she is 6 1/2 months old and still can't sit up steadily. They are putting her in a room for 3 months and younger which I see as a plus. Not sure about her immune system yet. Guess we'll find out but the only thing she was suspected of having in her 6 month life, so far, is a cold and she is getting over that right now. Didn't take her long. She came down with it on Monday and she did very well yesterday, so I think her immune system will fight " minor' things like that. They are all board certified and that includes CPR. She is going to a daycare on an Air Force Base and is just down the road for the on base hospital. Although she can't really be treated there but in an emergency they can stabilize her and then transport. She starts on Monday and I am very VERY nervous about it. Not very thrilled to be going back to work even, but if possible, that's what I'm going to do. Until we are out of the woods on a couple of financial issues I plan to work. I then plan to start school online and then work from home. I really am at the point now where I don't want to be away from my girls even as tired as I get and as frustrated as I can get sometimes I just want to be with them. I dread the lack of time I'm going to have/not have with them again. Not sure if going back to work is a smart thing but for now it will help pay off a few bills then that's that, I will probably not go back. Then again, the daycare may decide that for me in that they panic everytime she sneezes or spits up. Who knows? I'll keep you all posted. Must go. I'm starting to ramble. Also, how is her immune system? Are the daycare workers CPR certified? I tired working after Chrystine's birth.... my Mom drove to my home to watch her and my then only other daughter, Arleigh. However, after Chrystine's 17th hospitalization, I decided to resign. I couldn't concentrate at my job. I hope you make the right decision. chrystal ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Guest guest
Thanks Krista!! She starts this coming Monday. I'm a bit nervous. Biggest negative thoughts I have had is that they used to call me all the time if my other daughters poo was green or something......you know what I mean. They called me for everything. I'm petrified she's going to freak them out in one way or another. Well, uhhhhhhhhh, I wouldn't be putting her in daycare if I didn't think she would be safe. Even her NICU doc's said daycare would be fine. If nothing else it will probably help boost her immune system. The last doc she had said just treat her as a " normal " kid and putting her in daycare is one way of doing that. We'll see what happens. I'm really torn about returning to work anyways and at this point I could just call my boss and tell him I quit and I probably will be thinking that as I drive into work on Monday. My husband is good with whatever I want to do. Guest guest
, I'm thinking the instruction list is the way to go. I'm going to work on it and get one to them. Maybe it will eliminate calls at work from panicky care takers. Thanks for such great advice.
