Guest guest
I'm not sure and I'm sure maybe other people can explain better than I on an email. I have swallowing problem with CHARGER, my family and doctors tell me take a small bite and chew completely then swallow with drink. sometime I can be stubborn to take a big bite. I went to a swallowing therapist once how to chew then swallow then clear my throat techeque (sp) everytime I eat way back well it doesn't help really. all I have to do is just eat small bite then chew completely then swallow with drink that what I feel about. I know it take a long time to finish eating but my family doesn't really mind. hope that help, Michele s. Swallowing Question Hi all, I have a question to put out there for any of you who experienced swalowing issues with your chargers. What did you all do to help them with it? We have an occupational therapist that just started with our Elijah. But, we want to do as much for him as we can. Are there any other treatments or procedures that can be done to help him to swallow? Just looking for advice. Thanks,
Guest guest
I think it really depends on how old your child is. When was first born we tried thickening the breast milk and giving it to him by bottle so he might be able to swallow it more effectively(i.e., not aspirate it into his lungs) but nothing like that helped. Like you I went online to find some answers and found out about the g-tube surgery and the next day I was on the phone demanding this for my son. However, this might not be a good option for your family it depends, I think, on the severity of the problem. , practically lived in the hospital with pneumonia and I couldn't stand to see him that way anymore. Now if your child is older, I think what Michele said was right on the money. I don't know all the physiology of it but these kids just have a hard time swallowing. After numerous trips to the ER for choking I just said to heck with it, there is simply stuff he can not eat like his brother and sisters and I still have to cut up most of his food in small bites, and constantly remind him to only take one bite, chew, swallow, clear, drink. It sounds time consuming and is but it seems a small thing for his safety.
