Guest guest
Hi, I am taking cortef for low adrenals and oral progesterone (prometrium) for estrogen dominance. From what I understand low progesterone is linked with low cortisol and supplementation with progesterone helps build back cortisol reserves. I have heard the hormone creams may be more effective than the pills. Just wondering if anyone has experience with oral vs topical progesterone. Are they about the same or is it better do do cream vs oral? If you are aware of any literature on this, I would be very interested. Thank you. Progesterone CAN mimick cortils and bind to cortisol receptors and actually block your own cortils from working correctly sdo be careful wiht taking too much progesterone. I would strongly suspect when you get ENOUGH cortils your estrogen levels will come down on the8ir own as low cortiosl Causes high estrogen. ------------------------------------ -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/
Guest guest
Thank you so much for this information! I'm heading to my OBGYN on Friday to complain that since I started on bioHRT 100mg progesterone, 3mg Estradiol, and 1mg Testosterone I feel like I'm walking around with morning sickness all day long (I'm on 10,10,5 Cortef as well). This may also explain why my face is starting to swell and my weight is just climbing! Sheila > > >>I am taking cortef for low adrenals and oral progesterone (prometrium) > for estrogen dominance. Guest guest
Sheila- as an ob-gyn, that estradiol dose looks really high and I am pretty sure the cause of your symptoms- quick look as I am geting ready for work!??? jGeri Geszler, MD
Guest guest
You are right, Geri! I called my compounding pharmacy to double check, and it IS 3mg and not .3mg so I spoke with their expert there and she told me that the estradiol at 3mg is way too high and causing the problems-the painful breast tenderness sure revealed that today. She recommended a " Full Profile 1 ZRT " salvia test rather than blood since I don't have a uterus anymore-too hard to tell my cycle now or if I even have one, that includes an ACTH for the adrenals-she said it would be able to tell the amounts I'm taking vs. what is actually there-some kind of forms to fill out on all that (will cost me $150.00 out of pocket-insurance won't cover bioHRT and will take 10days to process), and she also recommended topical creams for the estradiol and testosterone and a capsule for the progesterone since with estrogen dominance may have digestion issues; this will be such a relief I hope and pray after a full month of PMS and morning sickness combined. Hope this helps others, too. Guest guest
WOW that sounds liek a VERY high dose. I would think a 20-30mg dose would be fine but that mega dose is blocking what cortios lyou have from working thus the nausea. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/
Guest guest
Did he test your progesterone levels?? Sometimes oral progesterone can cause dizziness or sleepiness, but is good if you have sleep or anxiety issues.? 100mg is ok for oral if he tested you, but is a huge dose for the cream.? Guest guest
That is WAY too high of a dose. My doc put me on 100 mg transdermal a day and I almost went to the ER. Sleeplessness, anxiety, spiking BP, heart palps. Docs are overdosing patients on a regular basis from what I'm seeing. Of course you are depressed and nauseous. P is the hormone of pregnancy and you are using pregnancy-level amounts. High P in the first trimester is one of the reasons we feel nauseous. It also slows down digestion and gastrointestinal motility. P builds up in the fat tissue and can take months to diminish. I feel very strongly about this, as you can tell. I feel it almost killed me and I spent months researching this and talking with other women who were also overdosed on it. Cindy I am wondering if that is happening to me this week? I had been taking the Progesterone 200 mg every night. I noticed recently that I am feeling blue after putting it on, which for me is unusual because I usually feel best at night. I would feel depressed and nauseous. Could this be the Progesterone? Rhonda >
Guest guest
Naffy, The transdermal dose is typically 10% of the oral, since the transdermal route is direct and you are getting the full amount, whereas the oral route has a first pass through the liver, reducing the levels. So if one is taking 100mg oral, that would translate into 10 mg. transdermal. Problem is it seems most docs don't take this into account and give almost equivalent amounts, which are dangerous. And many people using OTC P cream on their own are using way too much. More and more research is coming out all the time, and the savvy docs are saying that the doses of the cream that were originally thought to be the normal dose are in fact entirely too high, especially since it builds up over time. Guest guest
Hey val, I forgot to say I was taking 100 mg ORAL progesterone. You think that is too high a dose, and I should try 20-30 mg oral? Thanks metta > > WOW that sounds liek a VERY high dose. Guest guest
DOSING question: does everyone here who takes either progesterone capsules or cream take the SAME dose every day (except for the time during the menstrual cycle, of course)? I wonder b/c I thought that the body only produced progesterone starting on day 14 of the cyle and then went up higher in production, and finally stopped producing at Day 1 of fthe next cycle. This is why I wonder why I'm being dosed with 100 mg capsules of prog. every day for my WHOLE cycle (minus the menstrual cycle). I'm 30, and had no period problems before and after being on prog, had the WORST most painful 10 days around my period, including migraines, dizziness, heavy flow, nausea, cramps, pain, and depression! Thanks for your help! Metta In NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS , idlvr@... wrote: > > > Did he test your progesterone levels??
