Crystal-

Thanks! It's one of my favorite photos. We are lucky to know some really

great people. Her 0-3 service facilitator is now the director of Hearing

and Vision Connections - and I am a trainer for them. They are housed at

ISD and one of her 0-3 deaf educators is also on staff. I work with one of

the IADB people through the Arc of IL. I'm telling you, there is a lot of

hidden value in stepping outside your comfort zone, meeting people, and

networking!

Oh, get this - for my job with Family Support Network, I get to meet

privately with my boss and the new IL Director of Developmental Disability

for the Dept. of Human Services. I've been able to be involved in the

process of writing the new children's waiver, getting it passed and funded

through the legislature, and now in helping to get it functioning in a way

that works for families. It's pretty amazing. Less than 2 years ago, I was

" just a mom " who wanted to make a difference. Pretty much every day I thank

God for all the blessings - including an amazing job.

Wow, Aubrie looks more like you everyday. That is an absolutely beautiful

ad.

The whole teenager thing has really thrown me for a loop. He's a great kid,

but is somewhat jekyll/hyde these days. The scary thing is that I remember

exactly what I was doing at that age. The world gets more

complicated/dangerous for kids all the time, but like , Tyler thinks

it will never happen to him. It doesn't help that he's living with two

different sets of rules, with me and with his dad.

I did see a CNN special about the teenage brain. It was very interesting and

I'm trying to remember these factors when he does something stupid.

Anyway, off to get some letters for Mac's medical equipment. I showed her

the picture of Aubrie and she's very excited to meet her.

Jeanie-

I didn't recall that you'd gotten a divorce. I'm very sorry that you've had

to go through all of that. I can't imagine how more complicated the teen

thing would be with two separate households. It's hard enough getting DJ

and I on the same page for parenting when we are happily married!

The world is way more scary. I think of it like when our kids were 2. We

know that 2-yr-olds hit and bite. We expect that kind of thing to some

degree but we still discipline them to help them move on to the next stage.

Same with teens. We may expect some of the typical teen behavior, but we

still have to discipline to help them move on. Problem for me is that

disciplining a teen is way different than disciplining a 2 yr old!

Just 3 weeks ago, I was ready to send to a residential treatment

program or some kind of camp. Now, I am totally enjoying him! We have

friends hanging around the house again and they are all good kids. I am

praying that this current state lasts - and even improves. No more Mr Hyde

for us, thank you! I hope Tyler gets to the Jekyll stage and stays there a

bit too.

year and she said its a bad idea and I should go help the red cross

Don't listen to the grouchy mother-in-law. I had hopes of staring a

foundation to support CHARGE families as well. Maybe you'll be the one who

really gets it done! Next year, I think the Family Support Network's STARS

advocacy training will be up in your corner of the world. Maybe the timing

will be perfect for you to participate.

In any case, the time will come for you to make your mark. In the meantime,

enjoy this time with your young kids.

You're such a sweetie! Very good for my ego as I'm feeling like quite the

old woman. Being surrounded by teenagers just points out all the glorious

things the years have done to my body, skin, hair. oh just to have that

scrumptious shiny healthy hair and glowing skin of youth.
