Guest guest
I was taking 25 mg DHEA. I have low estrogen progesterone and free testosterone, as well as low DHEA. Since I had started the sex hormones, I decided to go ahead and start the DHEA as well....trying to cover all my bases. I don't know how long it takes for hair to react, but I'm hoping to see a slow down in the shedding this week, since I've quit the DHEA. If I don't, I don't know where else to look for the cause. My temps are stable and 98.6 usually, so I'm thinking it's not thyroid. Naffy > > > Naffy- > How much were you taking and in what form? Guest guest
I too have hair loss. My hair loss has been over a 4 year period. My hair is half as thick as it used to be. My daughter noticed, a few years back, when I braided my hair to go on a jog. I flipped out, and thought I was dying, ha ha, it wasn't funny then, though. I paged my midwife on a Friday night (worst time to page unless Emergency, well it was to me), and she told me it may be a cycle my body was going through that got off cycle and would take some time to grow and get thick again. Nobody notices except my husband, oldest daughter and me. I keep it layered around the face to appear thicker. I use to have hair to my waist, but cut it to my shoulders when I noticed this thinning. I got pregnant soon after that and now my 5th child is 25 months, and I am having all of these symptoms again. My DHEA was 61.1 on my recent saliva test standard for 30-39 is 77-217, and I was considering asking my midwife to prescribe me a bio identical DHEA. I want my hair to grow, and not fall out. Are you stating that in your experience taking DHEA is the cause of your hair loss? I definitely don't want that. Please reply. Are you HypoT, or HyperT? Are you hypoadrenal? What are your symptoms? What do you do for low DHEA if taking a supplement will cause hair loss? Thanks for your reply. from Texas **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Guest guest
Wow! That is interesting! I've been taking 10-15 mg/day DHEA for a while. My labs always show that I'm low, even on that dose. I've been loosing lots of hair lately too. I think I might try weaning down and see if it helps! Thanks for sharing! lex > > > > > > Naffy- > > How much were you taking and in what form? Guest guest
Naffy..... you didn't say what form of DHEA. Sublingual or cream or pill? Either or anyway it's a high dose 25 mg.! Very high. I know a woman who was on 50 mg and lost well over 1/2 her hair. I take 1 mg sublingual. And I get a very decent conversion to E, T and DHT. A little goes a long way. 5 mg is a good dose for a woman. Some can tolerate more but with sensitive follicles it can be a hair disaster like no other. I bet this is it with you. It's a huge red flag to me. Hopefully the shedding will slow down soon. Probably will. Eileen Begin forwarded message: > > I was taking 25 mg DHEA. Guest guest
Sorry. It is Life Extension capsules and the bottle says: 100 mg 7-Keto DHEA with 25 mg DHEA. SENT TO ME BY MY DOCTOR!!! Geez....trust them as far as I can throw them! Dumped them down the toilet. Don't intend to take again, I don't care how low my DHEA is. I want my hair! Guest guest
Well this girl who lost half her hair on 50 mg was also prescribed this by a doctor! It's amazing to me! DHEA converts readily to DHT. And I simply don't trust that 7-Keto is unable to convert to sex hormones. It seems a number of hormones zoom back and forth on various pathways. Who can prove it is or isn't happening with you? We all know what they say about 7-Keto..... hmm. You're fortunate to have caught onto this as soon as you did! -AG http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/growhair/ > Sorry. Guest guest
My God! If we let them these doctors will KILL US! I even ASKED HIM about the high dose, and he shrugged it off and told me I was going to feel GREAT! Great and bald who wants that? Did your friend get her bair back after she got off the DHEA? Is this permanent? I've already noticed less shedding....but am wondering if the damage is already done. Thanks for helping me, naffy > > Well this girl who lost half her hair on 50 mg was also prescribed > this by a doctor! It's amazing to me! Guest guest
I hear you!..... we can hardly afford to take anything anymore until we research it throughly and then we will be completely confused. The girl I mentioned did not grow her hair back, but there might have been other issues too. I think she was on it for a number of months, not such a short period as you. I think you will be fine. From what I read and witness it takes a bit to damage the follicles. So happy you are seeing a reduction in shedding. It will grow back! Guest guest
Naffy, I just wanted to mention that I too have lost about half of the original density of my hair. It's so depressing. It's happened over the course of 6 years or so. My loss is androgen related. I think though, that the adrenals could somehow still be to blame. Best of luck to you. > > > I too have hair loss.
