Guest guest
My ND has me taking 1 tsp of L-Glutamine(free form) which are 5g each. She has me doing this for my stomach. Is this ok? Should I stop, and should I tell my mom to stop...she's been taking it for about 6 months now, I just started 1 month ago. I honestly wish I could understand the article but I can;t, that's why I am asking for your help. Thanks,

Guest guest
I wasn't real clear about the L-glutamine vs. free glutamate issue, but I do know quite a bit about free glutamate and after reading mercola's article, and digging out the book " Excitotoxins " by Dr. Blaylock, it seems clear that we should NOT take L-glutamine because it converts into glutamate in the body and affects the brain. The only safe glutamine is that which is naturally found in foods as an amino acid because it is bound with other compounds that prevent it from converting to free glutamate once we ingest it. google russell blaylock--he is the expert on the subject and is the one mercola was quoting. Guest guest
Well, see, that makes me wonder. In whey protein, the L-glutamine isn't ADDED, it is naturally there along with the other amino acids natural to whey, which is isolated from milk. I use only un-denatured whey, so the amino acids aren't heat damaged. I would think a person could tell if they were having adverse reactions to supplemental L-glutamine. IF no adverse reactions are experienced what is the problem? Yeah, I should google and read more, but I'm at my absolute limit on reading at the moment. For all the info from one guru on one side of this issue, there are others who say it is not only ok, but beneficial. Both are very convincing. sol lizz7711 wrote: > I wasn't real clear about the L-glutamine vs. free glutamate issue, > but I do know quite a bit about free glutamate and after reading > mercola's article, and digging out the book " Excitotoxins " by Dr. > Blaylock, it seems clear that we should NOT take L-glutamine > because it converts into glutamate in the body and affects the brain. > The only safe glutamine is that which is naturally found in foods as > an amino acid because it is bound with other compounds that prevent it > from converting to free glutamate once we ingest it. > > google russell blaylock--he is the expert on the subject and is the > one mercola was quoting. > Liz > >
