Sol,

Orthotics are much better than any regular insole. They are CUSTOM-MADE

for the INDIVIDUAL by an orthotic specialist. I know in my case one leg

is like 1/4 inch shorter than the other. So no regular insoles work to

prevent pain.

I got the birkenstock inserts on advice of a few people who had the

custom orthotics and spent hundreds on them, and the custom did not

work. So on their advice I tried the birkies first, thinking I'd go

ahead to custom orthotics if needed, but I didn't have to.

FWIW, I don't have a shorter leg though (my dad did, and I know the

problems it can casue). So maybe that is why they worked for me, as I

didn't have that to compensate for.
