Guest guest
, Homework should be meaningful and not a punishment. Learning needs to stay positive, though it may be hard. But there's that line of teaching level and frustration level. And not just for the student but for the parent as well. You know extended school day doesn't only mean for the summer. If he is having such difficulty you can ask for an extended day. Someone can work with him, other than you. We asked for the same and low and behold, the homework lessoned. For example instead of doing 50 math examples she did 25. With that her grades and her memory improved. Homework remained hard and time consuming but at least it was manageable, meaningful and appropriate. She continued showing she was mastering the curriculum. We also had them preteach some vocabulary for specific classes. One example was she got things wrong because she didn't understand what equation meant. They thought she understood equation but for the life of her she didn't. Her aid wrote notes and all but that doesn't help if Patty didn't know the word. Think of the words out there. And think of how they can be confused with others that sound similar. Don't just assume they know. Patty also wasn't one who memorized and/or just learned. She learns best by experience. Her spelling and sentence structure improved when she learned how to use the computer independently. Those red and green lines helped like mad. I know you probably are getting tons of help you need already. Those are just a few more ideas. Thinking of you! Guest guest
thank you--so far no reply from the teacher, but tim said last night we need to ger a recorder so he could listen to notes--maybe next year.... only problem with extending the school day is his school is an hour away--although some days they do start it before he comes home which helps. maria Re: homework- other memories , Homework should be meaningful and not a punishment.
