Guest guest
We took Aubrie off her meds, but I couldn't tell you when or by what process. She had a Gtube but no fundoplication. I recall changing formulas and finding that her reflux dramatically improved with Nutramigen. I don't know when she quit refluxing or how we knew when to stop the meds, but it must have happened cuz she doesn't reflux and takes no meds now! Not much help except to let you know that it can happen. If Sam doesn't seem up to it right now, keep trying until you find that he's ready. Sam is 18 months and I'm trialing him off Prevacid this week. I was told once he was spending more of his day upright, the reflux could lessen. He was fine until today. I'm calling it a " bad day " but if he keeps this up, I guess I'll put him back on Prevacid and see if he gets better....
Guest guest
Just be careful. I weaned Meagan off her reflux meds two months ago. I thought all was well, but then she popped up with pneumonia twice in a month and a half. I chalked it up to being sick, but this last time she was never sick. We now actually think she is silently refluxing. I guess that is when the food comes up but it doesn't actually spill out her nose or mouth. It just tips over into her lungs. If she develops one more bout of pneumonia, or we think she is coughing more than normal, her doctor will put her back on her meds. By the way, Meg is 2 1/2 years old. Hope this helps! , mommy to Meagan (CHaRgE) and 2 1/2 year old twins, and big brother 5 years, married to the best daddy in the world for 10 years! The mention of my child's name might make me cry. Not mentioning my child's name will break my heart. Unknown -- weaning off reflux meds For kids who have GERD treated with meds, not surgery- any success in weaning off reflux meds? around what age? Guest guest
I suppose all kids are different and I don't want to dampen your hopes, but my daughter had bad reflux and surgery at 8 months, she is still on Losec (which is same as Prevacid) and she is almost 6yo now. She is much more comfortable on it. I have tried weaning her off them but have too many " bad days " . Good luck. > > > For kids who have GERD treated with meds, not surgery- any success in > weaning off reflux meds? around what age? > > Sam is 18 months and I'm trialing him off Prevacid this week.
