Guest guest
Marilyn, You did a fabulous job presenting such a difficult subject. I am continually amazed that the professional community, for the most part, has not grown in it's understanding, and has not cultivated a broader grasp, and your group doesn't even seem to appreciate " deaf/blind " or multi-sensory, much less the multilevel processing deficiencies that we see. It's the age old problem of preconceived notions. We had none, and so we see clearly how much more is going on. They, in their need to classify and categorize, just keep failing. ----- I also think you can modify that IEP, but don't know how. Hopefully someone does. --- Great work! in Ma. ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Guest guest
: Thanks for the compliment! But there has to be a shorter way for me to say all that! Also, I have said it before, and will say it again (and probably repeatedly from here on out!): With the medical marvels and breakthroughs that are occurring daily, there will be more and more infants " saved " that might otherwise have been lost. However, that also means there will be more and more children going through our schools with multiple disabling conditions, more and more complex combinations of disabilities; and someone needs to grab the horns and ride this thing to do what needs done for the children! I still believe that! And I have yet to find many who will grab those horns! The preconceived notion is the old cow that stands in the field and chews her cud. (Not very challenging.) The new frontier is the bull that snorts and dodges every time you try to grab. And watch out when you get a good hold, because he'll try to throw you off! We have learned to hang on tight and ride it out because it is our child. The professionals sometimes walk away after one bounce off the back: It's not the comfortable ride they had before! But, sometimes, the view from the top is so much better than that from the ground!
