Guest guest
Here's one of the old ladies of the bunch giving advice again. went to her dr today for the yearly physical required by our state. Her houseparent sort of person was herself quite sick and noted that K. had been coughing and sleeping one heck of alot (until noon today). For the first time in ages, K. just lost it at the dr's office - the idiots have known her since birth but insisted on holding her down before SHE understood what was going to happen (but that's an angry mom's aside). Anyway, the dr. looked at 's throat and said it looked fine, but something made him do a strep test - probably K's aide's symptoms. They didn't think it possible that she had strep so we went home, only to receive a call that the test was positive. So, over and over, if your child - or young adult - " acts up " or whatever, always remember to check on illness. had actually pointed to her throat to me on Saturday; if she signed " hurt " , I missed it and just assumed that she was asking me for the name/sign " throat " . I always think of her ears --- we all need to be broader than whatever is the general rule for our individual children... if that makes sense. I've taken forever to just remind us all to look at behavior in terms of communication, often pain --- even when a dr initially says all is fine. Guest guest
Thanks Martha! I know I forget to look at the " obvious " sometimes. Guest guest
Martha, You're so right.Last week, MacKenzie was very " off " . Her behavior was worse than usual and several times she asked to come home from school. Her regular Nephro appointment showed a raging UTI. Now we all feel guilty and will be more vigilant in the future. She doesn't complain alot, when she does, we need to listen. Jeanie
Guest guest
I have always said listen to your gut and don't take the 1st answer as is if you don't agree. Sorry you had to go threw all that.
