Guest guest
my husband and I are going no kids maria Going to the conference alone?? Hello everyone, I am is, 's mum and we live in the UK. I am going to come to the conference on my own and wondered if everyone thinks that I will still enjoy it. Neil and I have thought hard about bringing the whole family, I would love to take to meet his friends with Charge, but given the 8 hour time difference with the UK we decided it might just be too much like hard work and too disruptive to his body clock! So we will wait til the conference is on the East coast again and there is less of a time difference before we bring him over. But I am still coming....just on my own. Will it be OK? I am used to travelling alone with work, but I am wondering if I will enjoy being at the conference without my Charge child and if anyone else is also going to be there on their own?? is (Mum to , Aged 3.5 UK)
Guest guest
Hi is I'm also going by myself. Carol and I went to the French conference a couple of years ago without our families. It was certainly odd but it is certainly worth going. This conference reminded me of many behavioural characteristics of CHARGE had that I had forgotten about and just assumed were typical. There will be so much you will get out of the conference. One plus? is that without the responsibilities of having children with you it is easier to socialise in the evening although before, during and after the Miami conference the pool was the centre of social interraction. At Miami I did meet other parents who were by themselves. (I hope this makes sense I've been up since 4 with less than 4 hours sleep) as Jess has a cold. What I will do is use a webcam on MSN messenger so that I can communicate with at least once a day while I am there (Flo and Elly are easy since I can do this by phone). When are you flying out? If you are there on the 25th which is the day I get in, its my birthday so I am looking for assistance to celebrate it. Simon

Guest guest
is, Although it would be great if your entire family could come and I do understand your concerns about the long trip and time change, I can assure you that we do have other parents who are coming alone. Simon, My birthday is on July 20 (the Friday before) and I always celebrate it during the conference week. I will arrive on Monday, July 23rd so I'll be ready to party when you get there. Wishing both of you a smooth ride across the ocean. n simon howard wrote: > Hi is > > I'm also going by myself. Carol and I went to the French conference a couple > of years ago without our families. Guest guest
I am sure it will be informative and you will still meet so many CHARGErs there it will help you in the long run. I know I am excited to meet the parents just as much as I am to meet the CHARGE kids. Hugs, Crystal and Eva > > Hello everyone, > > I am is, 's mum and we live in the UK. Guest guest
is: Don't worry at all about being on your own. In my experience, you won't be! I've not attended any of the other CHARGE conferences but have certainly gone to even the large deafblind conferences. The first time, Andy and the girls came, but I seldom saw them --- as I attended sessions, etc., they went sight seeing. All of the other times, I've had to go on my own. There were always lots of people to join at meals or over drinks, and I could really concentrate on what was happening. My only regret has been that Andy has seldom been able to " learn " directly from the professionals, but I keep good notes! Just come and plan to learn while also enjoying yourself immensely. Guest guest
Hi is. I'm , Luke's mom, 2 yr old CHARGEr. I'm not going to the conference alone, but I'm going without Luke, my husband and other kids. I will be going with my sister-in-law (Luke's nurse) and my mother-in-law (Luke's PCA who helps Luke with therapy and development). I've been very torn about whether or not I want to go without Luke, but I know there's no way he can make the trip. We can't even get him out the front door without an emotional breakdown. I've been kind of worried about feeling " funny " being there without him once I see all the other CHARGE kids there. It's our first time going, but I'm sure we'll get a lot out of the whole experience. Just being able to meet other parents and CHARGE kids will be awesome. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the people on the list too. Hope that helps some! , Luke's mom, 2 1/2 yr old CHARGEr www.caringbridge.org/mn/lukejoseph > > Hello everyone, > > I am is, 's mum and we live in the UK.
