Hi --

You didn't read it, because I didn't write it yet... Unfortunately, it

went just as I expected. The speech department supervisor referred to

Eddie as cognitively impaired, said he has no need to know colors, and

said all the different communication options we want to give him would

be too confusing. She says he's at an object level, but they're not

using objects on a regular basis to represent the different parts of

his day. She also says they have no need to take advice from any

outsiders, so getting the recommendations of the deafblind project or

the commission for the blind implemented is impossible.

The good news is that I had a nice chat with Eddie's personal aide

(can't call him an intervenor YET because the school has put up so many

roadblocks to training) and he really wants to learn more about how to

help Eddie. I'm trying my hardest to get him together with the

deafblind project before summer session starts in 2 weeks, and again

when we're at the conference.

I submitted a request to the district for an independent evaluation,

with Perkins as my first choice. We'll see where that goes and start

looking for a different or in-district placement.

Hi Joanne,

I am feeling the need to comment (maybe it is more the need to comment to

Eddie's team!),but am on my way out the door. I will get in touch with you over

the weekend, ok?
