Guest guest
Sorry Michele, I've never been to Vegas - Texas is the farthest I've made it, to the '99 conference. Have fun, sounds like a great time. I'll see you in about 3 weeks. > > I am asking travel advice. We will be stopping in Vegas for 2 nights and > one day on our way cross-country to CA. Guest guest
Michele, Ann Girardi is a our travel guru‹she knows everything!! And she knows Lost Vegas. She said: Circus Circus is good price but icky; Stratosphere has rides and is fun and ³cool² but far from the action; Flamingo is in the middle of the strip, fun, good pool, and the Monte Carlo she doesn¹t know about. She is going after CHARGE and said that after CHARGE there is a HUGE convention happening so the rates are high. If you are going BEFORE CHARGE, then the rates are better. Guest guest
Michele, You're driving? We had seriously thought about doing that too, but had too many other things going on this summer to be able to fit it in. I kind of wish we would have done it now, though--I'm going to miss seeing everyone at the conference! We've stayed at the Flamingo, and it doesn't really have all that much for kids. Circus Circus is kid-friendly, as is the Excalibur. I haven't personally stayed at either one, but have friends who have stayed there (a few years ago) and said the rooms were nice and the price was very reasonable. Here's a list of Top 10 kid-friendly Vegas hotels I found on the Internet--they rank Excalibur and Circus Circus at the top: http://hotels.about.com/od/lasvegas/tp/kids_las_vegas.htm Have fun! , mom to (5) http://kauffmanlak.blogspot.com/ --------------------------------- Sick sense of humor? Guest guest
- Oh, and yes, we are driving. We're taking 2 weeks. We'll head through Colorado and Utah seeing all the scenic views en route. Stop at Vegas and the Hoover Dam, then head on the conference. After, we will go to the Grand Canyon, drive through scenic areas of AZ and NM, stop at Carlsbad Caverns, and head home. We're getting very excited! Guest guest
Pam- Here’s the problem – the hotels that seem better, cost significantly more. The cheaper ones have mixed reviews – some guests say they are wonderful, others have all kinds of complaints. What’s a person to do???? I will appreciate talking it through with Ann. I’m on my way out the door to go pick up Aubrie from Grandma’s but I’ll be eager to continue the conversation later. Thanks! Guest guest
Michele, My advice on kid friendly Vegas would be Circus Circus.. We spent two days there on the way to the Houston Conf and the boys loved it.. They have a whole floor devoted to kids.. circus performers going on 24/7, an arcade, rides.. the restaurants are from very formal to hot dog and hamburger joints. If you are gonna be there during the week (Sun - Thurs) they have some great rates on rooms.. It's right at the northern end of the strip. The Stratosphere is actually on the other side of the highway from the N. end of the stip so if you want to do any other things, like Treasure Island (you gotta go see that one, they actually sink a Pirate ship in the lagoon just outside the front door) the Strat can be a pain because you have to get public transport or a cab to get to the Strip. If you wnat any more info let me know, I'll ask Dawn, she used to live there. Guest guest
The rooms at the Flamingo were very nice! And the price was reasonable compared to others in the middle of the strip. They have a great pool--just not a lot of kids activities like some of the other hotels have. But their location makes it convenient to get around to all the other sites. They are also close to the tram, which will allow you to ride to the end of the strip, where MGM, New York, New York, etc. are. The MGM has a cool games area for kids. Or at least they used to--it's been a few years since we've been there. Guest guest
- Then that sounds like a good choice for us. In a hotel, we want cheap, but clean decent rooms, a fun pool, and a good location. For activities, we can get to other places. Really, I don't want to spend too much time in our hotel. We want to see the entire strip. We only have one full day so I don't know if we'll really have time to swim or how much we'll see - but we'll have all our options open. Thanks to all for the great ideas. And almost all have Jr. Ranger programs for the kids, the ones at the Grand Canyon are great, the kids learn a lot, have fun and of course get their Jr Ranger Badge (each park has thier own.. the boys must have brought home 12 - 15 of them) Have you checked out the National Park web page ??? I've heard mixed reviews of Circus Circus (I've never been there myself). My neighbors stayed at the Monte Carlo when they got married in Vegas a couple years ago and liked it. There is a tram that goes from the Monte Carlo farther up the strip (to the Mirage I think). The last time I was there (it's been 4 or 5 years ago now), I remember it being really smoky in the casinos, and seeming like it was smoky indoors everywhere else. Guest guest
Hi Michele, I just returned from 4 days in Las Vegas with 5 college friends.(from 37 years ago) Anyway, I know that Circus Circus is kid friendly as it use to have some circus acts for children and also some carnival events. It seemed to me to be an older hotel - unless it has had some fixing up. Stratophere is on the strip but further down - located some ways from where most of the action is. I have stayed there - it was clean - nice rooms. I am not familiar with the other two. My friends and I stayed at the Belagio - only was we afforded it was because we could split the cost 6 ways! There are busses that run and and down the strip. You can get reasonable passes to ride for the day That way you can see the rest of the casinos down the strip. There is a lot to look at. - Venice canals, Eifel Tower, Statue of Liberty, Eygitian pyramid, musical fountain, volcano, - the lobbies of many of the new casinos are very pretty. Las Vegas is an interesting place to see - especially at night. Hope that helps a little. LInda from IL Karlee (19 years) Las Vegas travel advice I am asking travel advice. We will be stopping in Vegas for 2 nights and one day on our way cross-country to CA. I am so confused about hotel choices. We would like something cheap (since we'll be staying in hotels for 14 nights total!), we want the full Vegas experience, but we want it to be as child-friendly as possible. Here are some that we are considering: The Flamingo, Stratosphere, Circus Circus, or Monte Carlo. Does anyone have experience with those or others? Any advice?? A quick smile - Aubrie said to me, " I hope we don't get lost there! " with a big smile on her face - " You know, Lost Vegas! " Thanks in advance - Michele W mom to Aubrie 9 yrs and 15 yrs
Guest guest
- From what I am reading, sounds like the smoke is an issue everywhere. That might be very annoying - but we'll only be 2 nights and one day so it'll be tolerable. I've also heard mixed reviews about Circus Circus. Knowing that Casey has actually stayed there is a help. I'm glad to hear you know people who have stayed at Monte Carlo. I think I'm leaning towards the Flamingo right now. We'll have to see what special deals I can find on the day I finally get around to booking the room. Guest guest
Michele, All we did is tell them that he was hearing impaired and that was that. Another thing I thought of was at the first place you go to get a National Park Passport.. It's a little book that has all the parks in it and pages in the back to stamp each park's stamp.. kinda like the stamps you get on your own passport. All the stamps are dated for that day and then later you can say we were here on such and such a date. They aren't expensive I think the last one I bought was about $4. We have two or three full ones now. Can you tell my family loves the National Parks ? We've been to most of them in 9 or 10 states. I haves boxes and boxes of stuff from the parks. Guest guest
Casey- We love National Parks too! I've heard of the passports, but had forgotten about them. And I had no idea about the special passes. Thanks!
