No 20mg is not absolute! Where ever you feel decent and can raise

thyroid and have stable temps is th edose that is right for you. Though

the appetite increase may be better metabolism so thta is not a good

symptoms to go by! My appetite increases right before I start losing

weight from getting my metabolism RIGHT!

ty val...the concern about going lower with 20mgs more specifically

is from what i read here on STTM:

" Dr Jefferies states: " Most patients can be maintained on between 20

and 30 mgs. daily in divided doses. Although some patients may feel

well on less than 20 mg. daily, it seems preferable to give at least

this much cortisol, even to patients with low adrenal reserve,

because it takes the strain off of the residual adrenal tissue and

provides for more functional reserve in times of stress. Under some

circumstances, it appears to provide an opportunity for residual

tissue to regenerate.

AND

Keep in mind that when you take a small dose such as 10mg of HC per

day, the body is going to sense that cortisol in the blood and " down

regulate " it's own production of cortisol somewhat. So it is not just

adding to your cortisol, but reducing it to some extent at the same

time. "

So I was wondering based on Jeffries comments and also don't want to

be down regulating my own cortisol. I just feel like I'm getting

plenty on 15-17.5 mgs but almost sounds like an all or none deal from

this?

I was wondering about this issue myself and just posted the following to the

NT group today but since the topic is active here, I will repost here. I am

also on 10mg of cortisol and 90mg of armour. Just made the big switch (from

synthroid and cytomel) a few weeks ago. So far, I havent felt hyper on the

armour but still a little hypo. I plan to keep raising the armour til my

symptoms are gone. The way I understand it, in a nutshell is - If I feel

hypo I should keep raising the armour (slowly) and if I feel hyper, I

probably need more cortisol to support the increase in armour. Is that the

jist of it?

Several people have suggested I get on more cortisol but I wasnt sure how to

justify this request to my doctor when I'm not having symptoms. The jeffries

quote is helpful.

My recent labs precortisol were as follows.

am 6.1 (3.7-9.5)

noon 1.6 (1.2-3.0)

Eve .7 (.06-1.9)

PM .3 (.4-1.0)

Thanks.

Not quite. You cvan feel fatigeu from low cortilsl as well as low

thyroid. The best way to tell the differnce is to track temps using the

method described at www.drrind.com
