Guest guest
- I know nothing about medication. But Aubrie sees the social worker at ISD weekly during the school year. She doesn't have behavior issues so it's not exactly the same thing. They are working on her understanding of social situations, making friends, etc. The social worker is so good! It's not like a grown up where you sit down and spill everything. They play and talk. Since the next issue will be Aubrie going to both ISD and returning to our public school next year, today they played school with all the stuffed animals. They set it up that the kids were starting a new school year. When they all arrived, they had to introduce themselves and get to know each other. So she's helping through play to prepare Aubrie for meeting new kids at the other school. We have just 3 sessions through the summer, but this is the kind of thing they will do and the topics the social worker will bring up through their play. If you get a good therapist who works with kids, they will know how to work with Tim to get him to reveal his thoughts and feelings. They will also know how to help increase his understanding of things. The person will spend time getting to know Tim first so that he/she can use his interests as a springboard. Aubrie saw another local child psych who had a sand table and tons of toys. Aubrie could set up any situation in the sand table. She was hooked on parades then so usually it was a parade. The therapist would have her explain who the characters were, what they were doing, what they felt, etc. Then she'd take polaroids before the toys were put away so she had a record of what she built each time. You will be amazed at what a good therapist can do with a kid. Guest guest
Hi , Talk to Debbie Matasker because I think takes Wellbutrin and she loves it. I know from personal experince medication is a huge component to 's behavior...and behavior management. He does great and is really learning self-control only when he's at a right medical/chemical dose. takes Abilify in a baby dose...it has really been amazing at helping him find internal calmness. Good luck with the decision. Who are you seeing for medication? We see Dr Cargan. Guest guest
Michele, Sounds like a good person for Aubrie. , It depends on the focus of therapy. If it is about trying to talk Timmy into " behaving " differently without any attempt at understanding the neurodevelopmental reasons underlying the behaviors, I would run fast in the other direction.
