Guest guest
I took it for a couple years for depression issues (which I now believe were thyroid related). Anyway, it worked well for the depression type issues, but did nothing for sleep. In fact if I took it at bedtime or late in the day, it significantly worsened my sleep (no sleep at all). sol Rhonda Connelly wrote: > I have heard one person sleep really well on 5HTP. Guest guest
Some people have paradoxical reactions to 5-HTP and/or tryptophan. Normally it should be somewhat sedating, but with some people it has the opposite effect and makes them wired. Guest guest
I used to take 200 mg every morning. For sleep I've seen doses higher than that recommended to be taken at bedtime. But for me, the bedtime doses were a disaster, and the higher the dose the worse the disaster. Eventually, after much unintended experimentation, I found that if I didn't take my dose in the early am, I had to skip that days dose. Something else--on an empty stomach 5HTP gives me horrible stomach pain and nausea. I felt like I needed a bit of 5HTP recently, and got a sharp reminder of how it can hurt my stomach, as I forgot and took a morning dose on an empty stomach, it actually sent me back to bed with awful pain and nausea. I always had to take it with a meal (not just a snack but a real good breakfast with protein and fat) or use an enteric coated version. I haven't been able to increase my T3 only to 5 mcg raise since September of 2007.
