Guest guest
(20 months) just started working with an orientation and Mobility Specialist and she has been such a wonderful help that I thought I would share some of the things that she is doing with my son and maybe it will help others. likes to back scoot around the living room and he never explored other rooms in the house. We needed some sort of encouragement to get him to first crawl forward more often and second to leave his comfort zone in the living room and venture around the house. Some of the things that she did that made a big difference are bringing a remote control car it drives really slow, I use the controller and he has been chasing it around the living room. Also we moved the car around the house and he actually follows it into other rooms in the home. The car is made by parents and it has flashing lights (of course) and makes sound. We also use a Bright Yellow Chicken that waddles and does the chicken dance, he moves forward to catch the chicken. The next thing that we wanted him to do is visually see that the coffee table has corners and continues beyond the small part that he stands up, leans on and plays on. We put Bright Yellow Electrical tape around the edges of the coffee table and immediately he moves around the table now. She also had me velcro pictures on the under side of the coffee table and he sits under it to look at the pictures. That is all I can think of for now but will share more as we go along. However, likes vibration and sound, one day I dropped a spoon on the tile in the kitchen and I am not kidding you spoons are now his favorite toy, they are shiny and they make a really neat sound when you drop them, he picks it up and drops it on the tile as he lays his head on the tile to get the best affect from the vibration. All for now, hope it helps.
