Guest guest
Hi Les. Speedy reply. Sure you will get lots of advise so will make this very speedy. J had a Kay (think that's how you spell it) walker which is like a back to front zimmer frame so instead of walking into it, it is following you (if that makes sense!). She had a really cure metallic purple one. Gives the stability to walk. She LOVED it and was quite a terror on it and gathered up quite a speed. For a graphic idea, swap the image of the walker for a tricycle!!! You have see her in action! Any physio or OT should know exactly what you are talking about if you just mention name. Photo somewhere pre-digital cameras. If I can find it, will try to get Simon to scan and we send to you. Good luck though. You up to your neck in studies? I am at the end panic deadline stage so locking myself in the loft in front of computer regularly, sometimes for several hours. Roll on the end (sorry to rub it in when I know you still have 2 years!). Guest guest
Les, Kennedy had a pony walker: http://www.adaptivemall.com/pony.html It gave her the security she needed to start to move - it is adjustable and comes in different sizes. I like the pony because it really makes them feel safe, which is important with their compromised balance. Flo had mentioned had the Kaye (http://www.kayeproducts.com/wb01.html) which Kennedy would not tolerate. It will be up to what Amelie is most comfortable in. I know of other children who have also been successful with the Kaye walker and others who've used the Pony as well. Good luck! I believe that walker is what gave Kennedy the confidence to finally walk... > > Hi all > > I need some advice from any parents who have used a specialist walker. > pictuers would be good, to show my OT > > I have a meeting July 10th, Amélie is weight bearing on her legs, and when > held under her arms she puts one foot in front of the other, > as if she knows thats how you do it, but her upper trunk cant support her, > and she loves to set of but I > give up before she does as my back is aching as she is 15kg +++ !! > > We have had a frame from the OT but she was strapped in like a mummy, and > could not move, just her arms...she went crazy each time > we put her in it, she likes to be free and on the move. > > Any help much appreciated Les x > >
Guest guest
as usual you come up trumps with the pictures of both too!! the Kaye Flo described is not suitable looking at the picture although i smiled thinking of J in this, the trycycle was far more scary to watch J on!!... but now seeing the picture, I know Amélie could not use this yet, she needs the truncal support like the one Kennedy had its the floppy upper tone that lets her down. Will show this picture to my OT. many thanks Les x > Les, > Kennedy had a pony walker: > http://www.adaptivemall.com/pony.html > It gave her the security she needed to start to move - it is adjustable and > comes in different sizes. Guest guest
Les, Eva had and is getting a rafton gait trainer (http://www.rifton.com/resources/articles/itemspecific/promptreductio n.html ) She has such a hard time controling her upper body do this helps hold her hips. I am sure the therapist will know what will work best for her. We also have just a regular walker but she just doesnt understand she needs to hold onto it to walk but she tries. Good luck!!! Guest guest
Hey , I am in the process of chosing a walker for Alissa too.... they left me two types to chose from for a few days just to see how Alissa does in both of them. The gait trainer... like the one Crystal is getting for Eva.. and the pony.... they are both great walkers and now I have to chose and I can't!!! Crystal, when are you getting yours... i can't wait to hear how eva does in it... have you tried the Pony at all for Eva? It's a tough choice but in the mean time Alissa is buzzing around the house in both of them and she looks sooooo cute!! Its amazing how well she does considering she can't see where she's going. !
