Guest guest
I apologize, this is the first I am seeing this. There is A LOT to this story. This is very sensitive information. This was settled almost 8 years ago. I don't know why it showed up now. Yes, we look bad, the parents always do, but we were doing what we thought was the right thing given many events that led up to the birth and after the birth of our son. Bottom line is there were many things that went wrong during my pregnancy, unrecoverable operations and mistakes made by doctors for both myself and my son and a 19 week sonogram ON VIDEO and multiple pictures as evidence showing all the problems which the doctor never told us about. He never looked at our sonogram. I didn't find out anything was wrong until 33 weeks when I was very sick by then. A very close friend of mine who is a lawyer took the video and had it analyzed by three radiologists, all who said the same thing. They all wanted to know why we were never informed. Had we been informed before the birth we would have had the knowledge to prevent many medical mistakes made during my son's first year of life and to me. In our minds, this case had nothing to do with terminating. It was about our right to know about these problems that were plain to the naked eye, and why were we ignored by our doctor. Unfortunately most of the money goes the courts and the lawyers and little is left for the person who really can benefit as my son will as he becomes an adult. Was it the right thing to do? I don't know if it was the absolute right thing, but it was an open and shut case and maybe now the medical group I went to will treat woman who go to them with respect and take their concerns seriously. I was told I was just a complaining pregnant woman. This case was about being informed and having the time to educate and make the right decisions instead of putting out fires. Had I known beforehand I would have had the right team of doctors in place and delivered at the right hospital. Instead my son having about 10 unnecessary operations because people didn't know what they were doing and he wouldn't have had irreversible lung damage and the list of mistakes can go on. The way the legal community presents stories like these are never nice, and never the whole truth. I am truly sorry if this offended anyone. This should have never been presented on the list. Think of us as you wish but this happened a long time ago and I really don't wish to discuss this any further. Debbie Matasker charge in the news Im trying to think this was a badly twisted story made to make the parents look bad. I dunno. The parents alleged that medical professionals responsible for reading a 19-1/2 week sonogram failed to observe a hand defect and diagnosed the pregnancy as normal. Upon his birth in 1997, Matasker was diagnosed with CHARGE Syndromehttp://www.emedicin http://www.emedicine.com/ped/topic367.htm> e.com/ped/topic367.htm>, a group of birth defects that, in Matasker's case, include deformed hands, heart anomalies, and brain conditions that cause incurable cognitive difficulties. " Discovery of the defect from the sonogram would have led to more tests that would have shown the multiple deformities, " says Hicks, an attorney who represented the family. By the time the problems were picked up, in a later ultrasound performed when the mother began preterm labor, it was too late to terminate the pregnancy, Hicks says. The $1.5 million settlement will fund a special-needs trust for Matasker. -- I have 4 eyes, 4 ears, a guide cat and a cat that speaks mouse! - me
Guest guest
Debbie, I haven't actually read the posts about your story, but I just read your letter. You don't have to explain yourself to anyone, no one has the right to judge you. I'm sure it is very painful and sensitive as you went through so much and it was all highlighted for everyone to see. Like you said it was a long time ago, so don't worry about the past, try to just enjoy the future. Life is hard enough. Guest guest
Debbie, as far as I am concerned, you have NOTHING to apologize for and it is no one's business what you decide to do as a family. So....all I want to say is, I am sorry you had to go through any of this. best, pam charge in the news Im trying to think this was a badly twisted story made to make the parents look bad. I dunno.
