Guest guest
July 23, 2007 Dear Coalition Members, The Senate will be in session for the next two weeks but they are not scheduled to consider the Labor HHS spending bill until after the August recess. During the recess, while senators are back in their home states, they need to hear from you. Please call or email them and let them know how important services are for your child and your family. Ask your senator to offer a floor amendment to add $2 million to the deafblind technical assistance and dissemination program at the Department of Education. You should let your senators know that this is a national program. A group letter signed by 13 senators from 12 different states supported this request but it was not included in the senate bill. http://dbcoalition.org/alert.htm An amendment is needed to have the funding included in the Senate budget. Whether or not your senator signed on to the group letter, he or she may be willing to consider sponsoring an amendment. It is definitely worth asking. If you have the time, you may want to schedule a meeting with the Senator or his/her educational staff in the district office. Having a face and a story to attach to the funding request can have a great impact. If you have any questions or want more information, contact me at betsy.mcginnity@... or visit our website www.dbcoalition.org. Thanks for all of your hard work. Betsy Betsy L.
