Thank you for posting this Kem! That makes a lot of sense in my case - except I

think I had a bad magnesium deficiency before supplementing with vitamin D drops

(my vit D level was near the bottom of the normal range) - probably making it

worse.

Until I got my saliva cortisol results back I swore I had low cortisol - I now

think a lot of those symptoms, including heart palps and bad sound and light

sensitivity (and many more), where due to low magnesium - as I still experienced

them after I found out I had high - normal cortisol levels.

For those that are interested, I have read that taking magnesium supplements,

even the better absorbed ones, may not be easily absorbed for someone with a

deficiency. I have also read that magnesium is especially hard to absorb if you

have a candida overgrowth in the gut... this includes magnesium from your food!

However, magnesium oil is highly absorbed through the skin and apparently is the

quickest way of raising your magnesium levels.

There is more than one brand of magnesium oil available, all from the same

source, however this is the one I have just started using and am very happy with

(I copied Janie Bowthorpe). As well as providing me with magnesium it seems

relax all my muscles immediately after rubbing it in giving a feeling of being

more relaxed:

http://www.ancient-minerals.com/#magnesium_oil

I also got the same results (perhaps less potent though) from taking baths with

about 300-500g of epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) dissolved in the water. My

doctor told me a good way to absorb the magnesium this way is to fill the bath

so it only covers your feet and your bottom when sitting up right in the bath

with your knees up - with about 300g (no more) of epsom salts dissolved in this

small amount of water - that way it is more concentrated and you absorb it

straight into your circulation through your feet and vagina/anus (sounds awkward

but according to my doctor that area is super at absorbing!). You sit for 15 -

20 mins then you can fill up the bath and soak for relaxation too if you want

to.

I am also taking a magnesium supplement - a powder containing other things to

help with absorption - 2 - 3 times a day. I get my red blood cell magnesium test

result next tuesday - but my symptoms have convinced my doc and I that I have a

big issue with low magnesium.

I had best results raising my RBC magnesium with the topical mag oil. I have

bad malabsorption, so most supplements just gave me the runs. I do believe that

addressing low mag is very important for us; so many of us here are low mag, it

seems to me it has to be related to our thyroid issues.

Margery,

Was it you who mentioned in another thread that there was a connection between

Vit D and Magnesium? My magnesium has always been bottom of the range--like 4.0

of 4.0-6.2 or something. I just started the topical along with about 800mg of

oral supplements so here's hoping it helps everything--Vit D, mag, thyroid...

The only mention of a Vit D-magnesium connection that comes to mind is the link

that Kem very kindly provided:

I have read that a good daily dose of oral magnesium is " 200-400 mg. (Divide the

dose.) "

from (good magnesium info page):

http://www.krispin.com/magnes.html

That page also recommends brands/types. As with iron, some forms seem to be

MUCH more easily absorbed than others. I have heard good reports about the

" Jigsaw " brand.

I myself can't take oral magnesium, I have really bad malapsorption problems.

(I CAN take it, it just doesn't do me one bit of good!) I use only the topical

mag oil now.

I take 400mg magnesium citrate, 250mg magnesium amino acid chelate, and 300mg

from a combo of oxide, malate and taurinate. Plus the topical--trying for 16

sprays or 200mg. 1150 total, divided doses. Have been experimenting for years

with this. My vit D is 57 after 6 months supplementing 10,000 iu per day--up

from 55.

Thanks from me too! Kate (thanks Kate!)reminded me today of taking magnesium

(my levels tested low a while ago). I am going to try out the oil - I bought

some today. Wanted to share that you can get the Ancient Minerals brand on

Amazon and avoid the shipping cost, but also that there is another brand on

Amazon called Swanson Magnesium Oil that looks to be the same thing (sourced

from the same place) for 1/3 the cost. There is shipping of 4.99 but if you go

to the Swanson site directly you can order more vitamins, magnesium flakes,

albion chelated magnesium, etc with flat rate shipping of 4.99 for the whole

order. Just thought I would pass that along - all of these medications and

supplements are costing a fortune :-(

, Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this info about the two Mag oils. I wanted to order it but it was more than I could afford on the Ancient mineral site. I did order the Ancient Minerals from amazon. I want to try that one first and if it works for me I might try the Swanson brand because that is half the cost. I am grateful to you for posting this info.!!!!VeniziaSubject: Re: Know the Importance of Taking Enough Magnesium with Your Vitamin DTo: RT3_T3 Date: Monday, July 19, 2010, 11:41 PM

Venezia,

You bet! I am looking forward to trying it out and hope it helps with my low

magnesium levels. If you do end up liking the Ancient Minerals one and try out

the Swansons as well maybe you can post if you can tell a difference? I only

bought the Swansons brand. Hopefully it will be just as good! :-D
