Guest guest
I send my sister her t3 in the mail all the time. I am not really concerned about mailing meds and I doubt the PO is, either, unless it is a controlled substance, which t3 is not. And even then they just send you a warning notice and you never hear from them again. But if you are truly worried, you can always use FedEx. Guest guest
Kathleen. you got more guts than I do. I wanted to give you a heads up about doing this. My cousin has worked at the post office for 15 years and so I just called and asked her about it, she said no it isn't ok to mail thyroid medication...because though it may be over the counter in Mexico and legal for a pharmacy to send it to someone, it is not OTC in the US and requires a prescription. In the US Cytomel/cynomel requires a prescription. She gave me this website page so be careful, she wasn't sure what the penalty was if caught.http://pe.usps.com/text/dmm300/601.htm601Mailability12.12 Drugs12.12.1 Over-the-Counter DrugsOver-the-counter drugs are medicines that can be obtained without a prescription. Over-the-counter drugs may be mailed when all applicable federal, state, and local laws, such as the Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 and the Consumer Product Safety Commission requirements, are followed.12.12.2 Prescription DrugsPrescription drugs are licensed medicines that require a written order by a medical doctor or pharmacist before they can be obtained. Prescription drugs, including those that contain controlled substances, may be mailed by drug manufacturers or their registered agents, pharmacies, or other authorized dispensers as permitted by 21 CFR 1307.12 or in compliance with any regulation of the Food and Drug Administration or other applicable law.12.12.3 Controlled SubstancesControlled substances are any anabolic steroid, narcotic, hallucinogenic, stimulant, or depressant drug in Schedules I through V of the Controlled Substances Act, 21 USC 801 and 21 CFR 1300. Controlled Substances may be mailed by drug manufacturers or their agents, pharmacies, or other authorized dispensers when distribution is lawful under 21 USC 801 and 21 CFR 1300 and if the mailer or the addressee meets one of the following conditions:a.The mailer or the addressee is registered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).b.The mailer or the addressee is exempt from DEA registration in performing official duties such as military, civil defense, and law enforcement personnel.12.12.4 Packaging and MarkingsSecurely package all mailable drugs so that the contents cannot become damaged or dislodged during mailing. Follow the general packaging instructions in 601.1.0 through 601.8.0. Do not identify the nature of the contents on the outside of the mailpiece.12.12.5 Return of Prescription DrugsMailers may use merchandise return service to return prescription drugs for purposes of drug recalls; voluntary manufacturer withdrawals; and dispensing errors such as incorrect drug, dosage, or strength, as permitted by 21 CFR 1307.12 or other applicable law. The mailpiece must be addressed to the manufacturer or its registered agent. Manufacturers or their registered agents must furnish mailing containers to their customers for the purpose of mailing back the identified drugs. Manufacturers or their registered agents must use merchandise return service (see 507.11.0) with First-Class Mail or Priority Mail for these mailpieces. Manufacturers or their agents continue to be responsible for maintaining records in compliance with any regulation of the Drug Enforcement Administration and/or the Food and Drug Administration.12.12.6 Mailing StandardsIf distribution of a controlled substance is lawful under 21 USC 801, et seq., and any implementing regulation in 21 CFR 1300, et seq., the USPS considers such distribution by mail to constitute the mailing of matter not outwardly or of its own force dangerous or injurious to a person's life or health and accordingly mailable, subject to these standards:a.The inner container of any package containing controlled substances is marked and sealed under the applicable provisions of the Controlled Substances Act (21 USC 801, et seq., and any implementing regulation in 21 CFR 1300, et seq.) and placed in a plain outer mailing container or securely overwrapped in plain paper.b.If the mailing includes prescription drugs containing controlled substances, the inner container is also labeled to show the prescription number and the name and address of the pharmacy, practitioner, or other person dispensing the prescription.c.The outer mailing wrapper or container is free of markings that indicate the nature of the content.12.13Drug Paraphernalia12.13.1 Definition and ExamplesIt is unlawful to use domestic or international mail to transport drug paraphernalia. The term drug paraphernalia refers to any equipment, product, or material of any kind primarily intended or designed for use in manufacturing, compounding, converting, concealing, producing, processing, preparing, injecting, ingesting, inhaling, or otherwise introducing into the human body a controlled substance, possession of which is unlawful under the Controlled Substances Act. Examples of drug paraphernalia are items primarily intended or designed for use in ingesting, inhaling, or otherwise introducing marijuana, cocaine, hashish, hashish oil, PCP, or amphetamines into the human body, such as metal, wooden, acrylic, glass, stone, plastic, or ceramic pipes with or without screens, permanent screens, hashish heads, or punctured metal bowls; water pipes, chamber pipes, carburetor pipes, electric pipes, ice pipes or chillers, and air-driven pipes; carburetion tubes and devices; smoking and carburetion masks; roach clips (i.e., objects used to hold burning material that is too small or short to be held in the hand); miniature spoons with level capacities of 1/10 cubic centimeter or less; chillums; bongs; wired cigarette papers; and cocaine freebase kits.12.13.2 DeterminationIn determining whether an item constitutes drug paraphernalia, in addition to all other logically relevant factors, these factors may be considered:a.Oral or written instructions or other descriptive materials provided with the item that explain or depict its use.b.National and local advertising on its use.c.The manner in which the item is displayed for sale.d.Whether the owner, or anyone in control of the item, is a legitimate supplier of like or related items to the community, such as a licensed distributor or dealer of tobacco products.e.Direct or circumstantial evidence of the ratio of sales of the items to the total sales of the business enterprise.f.The existence and scope of legitimate uses of the item in the community.g.Expert testimony on its use.12.13.3 ExceptionsThe standards in 12.13.1 and 12.13.2 apply neither to any person authorized by local, state, or federal law to manufacture, possess, or distribute items described in 12.13.1 and 12.13.2; nor to any item that, in the normal lawful course of business, is sold through the mail and traditionally intended for use with tobacco products, including any pipe, paper, or accessory.12.14<<Posted by: "keickholt13" keickholt13@... keickholt13Thu Jul 15, 2010 5:18 pm (PDT)I send my sister her t3 in the mail all the time. On the rare occasion I post anyone meds to help them out if they are awaiting delivery I don't put a letter or sender address in with them, that way if there was a penalty they wouldn't know who to send it to! Guest guest
Yeah, I have guts. :-) I have bought controlled substances and NOTHING happened to me, even though they got confiscated 3 times! And that was totally illegal to me to import such things. I am NOT condoning or recommending this, I'm just saying it's the truth. I was desperate to sleep. In reality, do you really think they're going to come after me for sending a bottle of t3 to my sister? I doubt it. But yes, it's probably safer to use a courier. :-) Kathleen > > > > Val, correct me if I'm wrong but I think it's illegal to send your > > medication to someone else via mail. Guest guest
Well I guess like the old saying goes, no guts no glory:-) I don't know what the laws are governing Fed Ex or UPS but I wouldn't want fed agents on my doorstep asking questions. I know what it's like to suffer at the hands of doctors so I can understand why you do it...just please be careful and cover your hind end when you do these things. I think using the US postal service may be a federal offense since it's run by the feds but like my cousin said, she didn't know what the penalty was...please be careful;-) I know in my life I've taken chances doing certain things against the law and been caught at times while getting away with it other times so after awhile I started listening to Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry character "Do you feel lucky today, well do ya?;-) Anyway at least now you know what the USPS says about pharmacies and individuals mailing drugs, OTC and prescription within the US. Best luck to you.<<Posted by: "keickholt13" keickholt13@... keickholt13Fri Jul 16, 2010 3:51 pm (PDT)Yeah, I have guts. :-) I have bought controlled substances and NOTHING happened to me, even though they got confiscated 3 times!
