Guest guest
Joan, How old is he? If you guys have insurance, I would do a pretty comprehensive, especially if he's over 40: Comprehensive Metabolic Panel Lipid Panel TSH free t4 free t3 reverse t3 free testosterone estrodial progesterone DHEA-S CoQ10 CRP (inflammatory marker) iron panel (iron serum, TIBC, Ferritin) If he hasn't checked on his diabetes in a while, I'd add in: A1c to see how good his glucose control has been. If you are paying out of pocket, then at least get these: TSH free t4 free t3 reverse t3 free testosterone estrodial DHEA-S iron panel (iron serum, TIBC, Ferritin) You'll also need to do the cortiol saliva testing as well on him, Get the one where you do it 4 times/day. ZRT is good I think. You can order it yourself at www.salivatest.com You can't really tell much from a blood cortisol except if it's high or low in the morning but you know nothing aobut the rest of the day and the pattern. This a.m. after a shower and blow-drying his hair, 97.3. He is type II diabetic, and is generally under a good bit of stress. > > What labs would you recommend we do on him to figure out what is going on? Guest guest
Kathleen....he's 54, and we do have insurance, but it is a high deductible. I told him since I was in the hospital earlier this year, we need to get everything done that we can and just pay the rest of the deductible because next year it will be starting over again. He has an infected tooth that he's having pulled today, so I told him that we'd see if his temps come up after that is cleared out. If not, we need to do some tests. He is already on Isocort, and says it makes him feel better, so would he have to be off of it for two weeks before taking a cortisol saliva test? Thanks!
