Thanks,s That Sodium is very low, that might also point towards aldosterone issues and it may be worth getting aldosterone and renin tests done (salt fasting, it may be best to post on the adrenal list to check details) It may also be worth posting the adrenal saliva results on the adrenal list for opinion if you haven't done so already http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ Their FAQ Web site is here http://faqhelp.webs.com/ My gut feel is that you have something going on in the electrolyte/adrenal area Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
Guest guest
Suzanne, I had TERRIBLE issues tolerating t3. It went on for years, then I caught EBV and set me back even more. My issue was I seemed to need ridiculous doses of HC to tolerate t3, enough that I got scared and kept stopping the HC. Well, I tested my aldosterone and it was <1 !! Now I'm on Florinef and not only am I tolerating more t3 than I ever have, BUT I am having to decrease the HC significntly. I agree with Nick -- test the aldosterone as it looks like an electrolyte problem. The reason you probably felt well before with such terrible ferritin and t3 ratio was maybe high cortisol and adrenaline keeping you going. Most of us here probably went high cortisol and adrenaline to compensate for low thyroid way before we felt sick and ended up on this forum. And high cortisol with hypo usually ends as LOW cortisol and then there's tons of trouble getting the thyroid straightened out. Kathleen > > >I think I am going to wean off of t3. Guest guest
You are right nick. I did test aldosterone/renin. They both came out high. It doesn' make since. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, your message is inspiring. At times I wonder if I will ever feel good, but with emails like this I know it will happen. As far as electroyltes and aldosterone you might remember I am the one who tested high for aldosterone. The test doesn't make since but dr believes it is right because I tested high before. I am retesting soon but during my luteal phase. Dr wanted a comparison. I will probably run it a third time on my own dime is there an online lab to use? I am out of my depth here but assuming you took the tests at the right time of day and by the right protocol (salt fasting etc) this tends to point to " Secondary hyperaldosteronism " according to the quick google search I have just done http://labtestsonline.org/understanding/analytes/aldosterone/test.html I suspect that the adrenal group may know a lot more about this than I do http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ Their FAQ Web site is here http://faqhelp.webs.com/ Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, Actually, there was a typo in my message. I meant to say I stopped taking t3 because I was so scared that I had to take so much HC to tolerate it. This was over a year ago, though. Yes, you will feel better! :-) I get some setbacks here and there and get discouraged, but a consult with Val usually gets me back on track. Just recently I was feeling so tired and jittery. I thought oh no, not again. But turns out my HC was way too high! I have literally dropped 15 mg in about 3 days! And I am feeling better again. WHEW! Things just get soooo complicated and it's hard to be objective sometimes when you're looking at yourself. So you did the aldosterone test before properly during your period and salt fasting at least 24 hours? Maybe high aldosterone and electrolyete imbalance is causing your problems, I don't know, but your sodium and potassium don't make sense with low adlosterone, that's for sure. Something is going on there! Other things that affect electrolyes are renin and vasopressin. Maybe look inot those? I did see a post from another lady who said she didn't finally feel better and feel the t3 working until she started getting Meyer Cocktail IVs. She suspected she doesn't absorb nutrients properly. Within a few weeks she was off of HC and Forinef and the t3 was finally working for her. So I say keep plugging away! Maybe magnesium infusions would do the trick. I say try anything if you can't find out what is wrong! I know www.lef.org has it's labs you can buy. Health Check USA does too but I don't know if they do aldosterone.
