I asked my doc to be on Armour but he said I have to get my RT3 under control first. Thoughts appreciated :-) You have a Doctor that most people would love to have. Those are all symptoms of hypo and with high RT3 going over to T3 only is the best thing to do. There are lots of pointers about dosing etc in the web site at the end of this message. Things to watch are that your adrenals and iron are OK, the first iron test is ferritin, if that is low (under 70) then you definitely have a problem, if that comes back as normal then it may still be worth doing a full iron panel as there are other ways of iron being out of balance. If your adrenals and iron are not in place you won't be able to tolerate the T3 and will get lots of nasty side effects. Guest guest
where are you and who is your doctor....i as well as 2 of my daughters have had the same symptoms and i had to beg and lie to get cytomel for them..you are lucky to have this doctor..he sounds smarter than most Subject: Newly diagnosed RT3 - feel I need Armour not Cytomel - am I crazy? To: RT3_T3 Date: Saturday, July 31, 2010, 8:50 PM Hi Everyone,I am so glad to know that there is a group like this - I feel my anxiety decreasing as I write. Has anyone experienced - or known anyone who has experienced super high cholesterol (mine's 290 and I'm vegan), weight gain, extreme difficulty in passing stools (sorry if this is TMI) and hypothyroidism? Over the last couple of years despite my diet, excercise, and trying to stay healthy - my body was going downhill. My doc did labs and found that my RT3 levels are very high - and placed me on Cytomel 3 days ago. My first day I took 12.5 mcg 2 x (to titrate up to 75 mcg's a day) that day and got such a horrible headache and heart palpitations I thought I was going to have a stroke (I'm 55). I called the docs office the next day and they said split each 25 mcg pill into quarters and start slowly. This is the third day and no headache! Anyway - I've been reading about Armour and really think that my high cholesterol, constipation (believe me, my life has gotten to the point where I live on prune juice and nothing solid)and inability to lose weight are all somehow related to my thyroid. Am I just crazy? Will Cytomel help me with these symptoms? I asked my doc to be on Armour but he said I have to get my RT3 under control first. Thoughts appreciated :-)
Guest guest
Sounds like you have a good doctor. You definitely need to get your RT3 under control before going to Armour or any thyroid med that has T4 in it. The Cytomel will absolutely help you with all your hypothyroid symptoms. High Cholesterol, weight gain, constipation are all from being hypothyroid. You should read this page to get more info on RT3: http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/Too bad there aren't more doctors like yours out there. By the way...do you get enough fat in your diet? You can also improve your cholesterol by eating more saturated fat. But...in the end you really need to get your thyroid optimized to make a big improvement in your cholesterol. Also...don't believe what the mainstream says about high cholesterol. I would rather have high cholesterol than low. I think ideal is closer to 200 or even above 200. --Steph  Hi Everyone, I am so glad to know that there is a group like this - I feel my anxiety decreasing as I write. Guest guest
Almost all vegetarians that arehypo wqil have LOW IRON. Low iron will make you not tolerate or utilize T3 properly. Correct the low iron then try the T3. http://www.nthadrenalsweb.org/ http://www.health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://www.faqhelp.webs.com/ http://www.health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ where are you and who is your doctor....i as well as 2 of my daughters have had the same symptoms and i had to beg and lie to get cytomel for them..you are lucky to have this doctor..he sounds smarter than most Subject: Newly diagnosed RT3 - feel I need Armour not Cytomel - am I crazy? Guest guest
I live in Omaha Nebraska - Dr. Passer - I don't think he's taking any new patients now (you can see why he's so popular) but they might be able to refer you to a doc in your area. > > WOW!!
