Guest guest
Hi, It sounds like you could be missing an intrinsic factor (in your gut) that helps your body to properly use B12 - since you have a family history of deficiency. This is in addition to having the other gut issues you talk about. You are better off with sublinguals. You need the methyl form for sure, if you have the same thing your grandfather did -- and in fact, probably need to get the shots if you do. Here's the best ever forum on B12 deficiency: http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?t=9948 & page=1445 Lots of people here have the genetic thing. Guest guest
Thanks Pam, Since it looks like we are not allowed to import the Jarrow B12 anymore, Val mentioned Putitan's Pride B12. They have a methylcobalamin lozenge 1000mcg - it says to take 1 a day. How does that sound to you? Here's a link: http://www.puritan.com/b-12-vitamins-343/methylcobalamin-vitamin-b-12-1000-mcg-0\ 32861?NewPage=1 I think I will go with that. I have felt better since doubling my dose of B12 - but still think I could be doing better. I will get my B12 levels checked again next week. I have heard the taking high doses of B12 can lower your folate. Will I still need to take folate - or more likely, a B complex that contains folate and other B vitamins as well as the B12 loznges? Thanks for you help. Alana > > Hi, > > It sounds like you could be missing an intrinsic factor (in your gut) that helps your body to properly use B12 - since you have a family history of deficiency. Guest guest
Oh, Pam? I forgot to ask - is there a way to test for that missing intrinsic factor? And is there a way to replace it? Or is is just a matter of supplementing? I am happy to have injections if it comes to that. It's weird though - my doctor is happy with my B12 levels at 480 :S He thinks it's unnecessary to take any more :S It's funny, he's good with some things and not so good with others. Guest guest
Jarrow B12 is allowed to be imported into Australia. To do it legally you must however get a Doc to sign a Special Access Scheme form & get import permit when you order. It is a hassle & you would need Doc's cooperation to sign this form once a year. I explain this in this thread... Jarrow B12 on Prohibited List? http://forums.realthyroidhelp.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19103 In fact you don't have to import it at all. It is available from an Australian source here (although very expensive compared to buying from iHerb) ...... http://www.evidencia-australia.com/bc/30239/269569/1/b12---cyanocobalamin.html Note this is NOTHING NEW. Products with Xylitol have always been on the prohibited list. They do not seem to enforce it much either. I have been importing Jarrow into Australia for 4 people for several years. My packages have always been opened by customs & inspected & they have NEVER stopped the Jarrow B12. Of course it is a risk that they MIGHT if you don't have the SAS approval & permit. Guest guest
Thanks Wayne! I like the sound of that one as it's also got folate and B6 in it. I have heard taking high doses of B12 can reduce the folate levels. I'm moving back to Denmark in 4 weeks (as long as I stay relatively healthy in that time - fingers crossed) so hopefully I can just order any of these in there too! Thanks again Alana > > Hi Alana > For what it's worth I have been importing Labs Longevity Plus Beyond B12 into Australia for some time without any problems so far. > http://www.longevityplus.com/_product_67826/Beyond_B-12 > it is a sublingual tablet of 2000mcg B12 plus Folic Acid etc > Kind regards > Wayne > >
