Guest guest
Hello Im new on this forum and am really hoping for some help because im really confused! I was diagnosed with ME/Fibro 8 years ago, have spent most of that time bedbound until i found out i had adrenal and thyroid problem. Ive been on HC the last year thats helped a bit and NT. I got new labs done and i think i have RT3 problem could someone check it for me please? > Total Throxine - 41.6 (58-154) > TSH - 0.012 (0.4-4.0) > FT4 - 8.04 (10-22) > > FT3 - 3.9(2.8-6.5) > FT4 - FT3 Ratio - 2.1(2.0-4.5) > RT3 - 0.32(0.14-0.54) > > TG - 20(0-40) > TPO - 10(0-35) If i do have too much RT3 should i stop my NT and just take T3 and how much should i take? Thank you so much for any help. Love Leisa
Guest guest
Hi Leisa: I calculate your FT3/RT3 ratio as 12; anything under 20 indicates a problem. Going onto T3-only is the only certain way we know of to clear RT3. For more info, Moderator Nick's RT3 website is essential reading, here's the link: main page http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/ starting/dosing (in answer to your " how much should I take? " question) http://www.thyroid-rt3.com/dosing.htm I read every single page of Nick's website and it answered so many of my own questions. Getting adrenals and iron in good shape are very important for good progress on T3-only. (Since you are currently on HC, you may already be a step ahead on the adrenals part.) Nick's starting/dosing page has info and links about this. In addition to a ferritin of 70-90, we now also recommend getting another iron measurement, % saturation. A % saturation of 35-45 is best for thyroid function. FYI, Moderator Nick is also in the U.K. ( " Sunny Dorset " ). He has dealt with UK-specific issues like working with (or getting around) the NHS. Hope this helps. > > Hello > Im new on this forum and am really hoping for some help because im really confused! Guest guest
Thank you Margery, I wasnt sure of my numbers. I guess 12 is low enough to cause a problem? Thank you for the links, ive had a quick look and will read it properly later. Should i expect to feel worse or better as the RT3 starts clearing? I hope ive finally found whats been causing all my problems! Thanks so much for your help. Guest guest
Yes, 12 is low enough to cause a problem. Anything under 20 is. As far as feeling better or worse, usually better. Many people feel a little more hypo (and possibly lower temps and pulse) when they are due for an increase in T3 dose, and less hypo when they've raised the dose appropriately. There's a good description of the RT3-clearing process, and finding the right dose, on Nick's website: " As you increase dose you will have times when you are feeling well, record the pulse you had then and how you felt. If you are feeling a bit off and wondering if you need an increase, or just overdid things with your new found energy and enthusiasm with life, then take your resting pulse again. If it's sunk below your " sweet spot " then you probably need an increase. If you are feeling a bit " wired " and wondering if you are taking too much then again take your pulse, if it's above your " sweet spot " something is off balance, it may be too much T3 (a raised temperature will help confirm this) or it may be low sodium, see the salt water test.
