Guest guest
If it were low cortisol, or adrenals not handling extra t3 getting to the cells from taking inron, extra HC should have helped. Increasing iron wouldn't cause pooling, it should be the opposte -- more t3 would get to the cells. Did you try increasing the t3? What are your temps and are they stable? The breathing and hair falling out could be you just need more t3 now. Electrolyte imbalance can cause shaky legs, too. Have you tested electrolytes lately? What about glucose? Do you check your blood sugar or did you see if eating relieves some of your symptoms? Kathleen > > > I have been increasing iron a lot over the past 6 weeks and for the first 4 weeks or so I felt a lot better from taking it. Over the past two weeks though I have been feeling more hypothyroid - hair falling out, joints sticking. Also had symptoms of low cortisol - shaky legs, breathing issues and insomnia at night. Increasing hc didn't help. I've been thinking maybe the increased iron was somehow causing pooling - maybe it increased t3 availability, but adrenals couldnt handle it so I was going more hypo? I tried decreasing t3 by 12.5 yesterday and so far today i am missing 5mcg. I already feeling a lot more hypo - tongue swelling, foggy headed, fluid in ears and its not relieving the shakiness. I don't know what to adjust or what to do > > Any help would be really appreciated > > >
Guest guest
Thanks Kathleen! Sounds like I was going in the wrong direction! I have misplaced my thermometer, but I will get a new one asap and I am getting a ton of labwork done next week so will have some new numbers soon. The feelings are very low cortisol, but maybe that's not what is going on after all. The symptoms are a little worse after i take iron. Do people get temporary dumping of t3 after iron doses? Eating doesn't relieve symptoms. I haven't tested blood sugar - I don't have a test kit. I had thought I had found my " right dose " of t3 at 75mcg. Now that I am taking a lot of iron for low ferritin I am most likely getting more t3 into cells than before so I am wondering how that would make me go more hypo at this time? Pulse is very high for me now - in the 90's and I usually am in the 70's. It's really uncomfortable especially when lying down. thanks, > > > > > > I have been increasing iron a lot over the past 6 weeks and for the first 4 weeks or so I felt a lot better from taking it. Guest guest
, I'm sorry I can't be more help. It's strange that if it feels low cortisol, that HC doesn't help. But your symptoms also sound a bit hyper, too, so getting the temps will help a lot I think to figure it out. I have heard of people getting a " dump " of thyroid into the cells when they were low iron and then got it up. Margery had iron IVs, so you might want to post to her directly. No, if more t3 is getting into cells, you go LESS hypo, not more hypo. If your temps and pulse are both high, maybe it is just a dump from the iron. Maybe now you have enough iron or maybe now you have cleared. Why don't you stop the iron for now as you need to stop 5 days before the labs anyway and see what the labs show. Most people need at least 75 t3, so I hate to tell you to take less t3 until you get your labs. Have you tried salt water? Potassium? As some of this could be possibly electrolytes. Just make sure if you change those to stay on one dose for the labs so you remember what you were taking when you had the labs done! Guest guest
Good idea to stop the iron until tests are done. I don't think I'll add more t3 yet but I'll experiment with adding in more hc and potassium. I take florinef so I don't take much salt water. The only thing I could think that would be causing the hypo symptoms was if after I was getting t3 dumps from the iron, the adrenals were stressed and that caused more pooling, but I really have no idea. Guest guest
Did I say add in t3? I meant don't lower your t3 if at all possible until your tests so you can see what is going on with the dose you're taking, if it's truly pooling or not. Yes, what you say about the adrenals being strssed makes total sense, but you said HC didn't seem to help. Unfortunately, the adrenal group is closed until Friday so hopefully you can hang in until then and repost. If your cortisol is low, the t3 WILL pool and you will feel more hypo. And then you feel jacked and wired b/c of the adrenaline rushes due to low cortisol. So it sounds cortisol...but you said HC didn't help. Why not post this at the Adrenal Chat group? Someone may be able to look at your dosing and see what maybe went wrong when you tried to increase as wer'e not suppoxed to get into adrenal issues over here. In the meantime, see if your temps stable because that would show a lot. Guest guest
That sounds good. I think I may have needed more hc than I was taking and it wasn't making a dent. I just took a larger dose and I think it helped, but now I have a headache. I'm not sure if it is from the hc though. Ugh. I needed to raise iron, but now the whole cart has been thrown off balance. Some days I am just so tired of all of this I am on 30mg cortef a day normally. I am wondering do you know how the adrenals still make adrenaline for people on replacement doses? Do some parts stay working even when they are " asleep " from the cortef. Thanks again for your help > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > I have been increasing iron a lot over the past 6 weeks and for the first 4 weeks or so I felt a lot better from taking it.
