Guest guest
Kathleen, accidentally taking too much Metformin gave my Mom such bad hypoglycemia she ended up in the hospital. You have already tested your BG meter against another meter, that was the first thing I was going to suggest. I think it is uncommon for modern BG meters to be that far off, but obviously it does happen. I don't know all the symptoms of hypoglycemia, but I do know that shakiness IS one of them. I sure hope you have nailed this down. Stopping metformin should produce results fairly quickly, I believe. So you'll know pretty soon if this is the problem. > > Okay, for the past several days, I was experiencing extreme anxiety, feeling sort of shaky, also trembly in my legs. My temps were averaging 98.7 and my pulse went up to 88, but Diane thought these sounded like cortisol, not hyper. I HAD been stress dosing due to a trip and when I came home and went back to my normal dose, the anxiety got even worse, unbearable. So I went to get labs. > > ft3 is slightly over range, where it's supposed to be. (I don't have actual numbers in front of me as my accupuncturist read them to me over the phone. I'll have a hard copy tomorrow.) I didn't take HC this time before the blood draw as Val said there is a chance is can push the t3 into the cells. But with my temps being 98.7, I would think this may be accurate and not pooling. > > Iron labs showed I was slightly over sat and TIBC was near bottom of range, so it doesn't look like low iron is causing the anxiety. > > Well, I tested my glucose, too, because I wanted to see how accurate my meter is. I took my BG with my Bayer Contour meter IMMEDIATELY after the lab draw. My meter said 87, the same exact fasting reading it had given me an hour earlier. The lab glucose came back at 69! NOw that wouldn't matter so much except that for the past 2 weeks I've been taking Metformin to get my " high " BG down. WELL, if my meter is THAT off, I may have made myself go hypoglycemic, which I'm sure would cause my symptoms, right? > > Are the meters THAT off? Looking back, the anxiety started creeping up about 3 days after I started the Metformin. :-( I thought it was " false hypoG " phenononom, but maybe it was REAL hypoG! Guest guest
Thanks, Margery, for your support. It is greatly appreciated! Wow, that's terrible about your mom. I was really out of it today, so spaced out. I really think I must have given myself hypoG all this past week and today I took 1500 met, so no wonder I felt so crappy if this is the trouble. Yeah, I don't know what's with my meter. Dr. Berstein, a diabetes expert I really respect, recommends something called Hemocue which is supposed to be lab value accurate. I think I'm just going to eat a meal with normal amounts of carbs, like 30, and then go get a glucose test at the lab 2 hours later. THAT will tell me if my sugar is fine or not. Kathleen > > > > Okay, for the past several days, I was experiencing extreme anxiety, feeling sort of shaky, also trembly in my legs. Guest guest
BTW, what do you think of my ft3? I can post actual numbers tomorrow when I have the papers in front of me, but it was slightly over range, which is what we want. Unfortunately, I have been so spaced out and anxious, I didn't think to get the ft4 to compare with the last labs I ran on 75 t3. So I'm not sure if this new ft3 is real or pooling. BUT my temps were averaging 98.7, so I don't think that would be pooling, would it? I don't have low iron and on my dose of 37.5 HC, I don't think I could possible have low cortisol. Or should I ran the thyroid panel again, too? GRHHH. Kathleen > > > > > > Okay, for the past several days, I was experiencing extreme anxiety, feeling sort of shaky, also trembly in my legs. Guest guest
For diabetic people the drugstore has glucose tablets for when the sugar level drops too low suddenly. My husband was diabetic and he had them. Also, keeping lifesavers around, or even eating a spoon of sugar will bring the sugar level back up. The faster you can get the sugar up the better because the person could go into diabetic shock and then that is even more dangerous. <>Roni Immortality exists! It's called knowledge! Guest guest
That is terrible! How are we supposed to keep your BG in any sort of optimal range when they meters are off by so much? I guess if your target is less than 120, you're safe at least, but I was trying to achieve truly normal BG, which is less than 90 2 hours after eating, but with an error margin of 20, that is dangerous for me to attempt I think. I am going to buy the meter that Dr. Bernstein recommends. It is supposed to have lab accuracy. It is expensive, but the strips are not much more. Guest guest
Unfortunately, because of my meter, I had no idea I had even gone hypoG, so I didn't do anything to try to correct. In fact, I was taking more Metformin because my sugars looked to be going higher. I was probably having adrenaline rushes due to actually being hypoG. GRHH. I can't believe I may have ruined my trip over a BG meter! :-(( Kathleen > > > > Okay, for the past several days, I was experiencing extreme anxiety, feeling sort of shaky, also trembly in my legs. Geez. > > > > I know some of the mods have diabetes and check their BG. Is my meter just defective or is their a better brand?? I am stopping the Metformin at any rate and see if I feel better. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen: yes, FT3 slightly over range is what I try for. I think Val said she feels best at 6.2 With the other issues going on (metformin, etc.) it's tough to tell what is doing what. I don't know if there's a precise set of numbers for " pooling " . When I was, my temps were low and my FT3 was 11. So what you have does not sound like the pooling I had. Guest guest
I sometimes test my thermometer for accuracy against another one. I don't see why you can't test a glucose meter the same way. > > > > > > Okay, for the past several days, I was experiencing extreme anxiety, feeling sort of shaky, also trembly in my legs.
