Hi ,

I had hair loss from being undertreated for my hypo. I don't think natural thyroid causes the hair loss per say. Synthroid can, absolutely. But you have an RT3 problem so the bottom line is that even if you were taking a natural desicated thyroid like armour it is not going to work for you until you can clear out the RT3 that is basically clogging up your receptors. Val is right. You need to increase your iron (a little at a time) and get your ferritin level up. Then you can do the T3 only following the guidelines on nicks website. That is the only way you are going to clear out the RT3 and get better.

Do check your supplements. DHEA can cause hair loss. women should not take more than 50 mg a day. if your testosterone is too high in relation to your other sex hormones it can cause hair loss. If you can get a good comprehensive blood work up done to see how all your various levels are for Vit D, B's, iron, sex hormones, cortisol, etc. (ask val what tests to have done) in addition to the thyroid tests you will have a better picture of what is going on.

I would LOVE to solve the mystery of my hair loss. I was not losing hair when I was diagnosed w/ sub-clinical hypo and hashi. My TSH hasn't ever been higher than 6.0. When I take the dose of Syn the doc. recommends, my hair falls out in droves - I have lost half my hair. I lost hair on T4 too. I switched to T3 only when my RT3 problem was discovered. My hair has been growing in. I have my fingers crossed it continues.

YES to the question of estrogen connection and hair loss----I am going through hair loss right now---foolishly stopped my meds/supplements so my hair loss is a combo of hypo, low iron, low estrogen......balancing all now and I am finding new little hairs (smile).......

some women have great heads of hair no matter what--grrrrrr!--

the rest of us have to achieve that delicate balance, it's rarely one thing---unless you get into real medical stuff like alopecia, diseases, something like that....

Hello,

Yes, hair loss is a hypo symptom for me and my hair seems to be sensitive to any

fluctuations I make in t3. If I have to decrease, even for a little while, hair

will fall out! Very disconcerting. I thought once Val said her hair also falls

out with any change in hormone.

Another culprit for hair loss is low iron.

However, recently I've been having sympotms of low estrogen and I'm wondering if

THAT could be causing some of my hair loss as well. It's a known symptom.

I just read that any change in thyroid dose can also affect hair loss. I don't

have noticeable hair loss but every time I run my fingers through my hair one or

two comes out. I have been ramping up my dose and recently had to cut back on my

dose, so I guess hair loss wouldn't come as a big surprise.

I'm 54 1/2. I had a los of hair loss in the fall. I would run my hand through my hair and come up with a handfull. It is much better now. I would say that for the past half a year I only have 3 to 5 hairs in the comb after i shampoo and no more falling out. It's looking better than it has in quite some time. Hope this is encouraging.

I think my hair has started to grow back. It seems a bit more dense than it was last year.

I've got my fingers crossed. I am well beyond 55.

I've been on the RT3 group on and off most of the day. There isn't anything in my list right now. It's 11:30 now on the west coast, so it's up to three hours later in the other time zones. Maybe everyon is sleeping.

Internet Service Provider (ISP)? Check to see if it will get to OTHER yahoo
