Hi Connie,

I read the post below where you mention that you are on LDN. Since

hearing about this drug on PLS-friends I have approached 3 neurologists

and each will not consider prescribing the drug. They have reviewed the

LDN website, but do not believe the claims are accurate. I want to try

the drug, to see if I benefit from it, but am frustrated by my Doctors'

response.

Do you perceive benefit from this drug?

How did you find an open minded doctor willing to prescribe the drug?

Thanks,

Jen

Hi Jen,

Sorry to butt in but such neuros are total ar$eholes for refusing to

even let you try such a harmless thing as LDN in the hope of slowing or

even stopping your progression and maybe even giving you some

improvement. I can't believe they are so pig headed and bloody minded

as to consign you to just deteriorate............... :-(

Admittedly there are a very small proportion of people (probably less

than 1%) who have problems with LDN (anxiety attacks, palpitations) but

they are almost always the same people who are allergic or react to

virtually anything they try. Through the experience of hundreds of

people it is now felt that the best thing to do is start slow

(1.5mg/day) and build up to the target of 4.5mg/day. Problems are

almost non existent with such a slow buildup. That said, there are a

number of people (more men than women apparently) who find around

3.0mg/day is best for them.

There are also people for whom things like upset stomachs have been a

problem but in almost every case that has turned out to be due to the

filler used (3.0 or 4.5mg naltrexone is only a grain or two so the

chemist who makes up the capsules has to fill the rest of the capsule

with something else and often lactose is used which some people are

allergic to). There is a definite art to compounding (making up) the

capsules and many people have had problems or felt the LDN was doing

nothing until they changed to one of the recommended suppliers.

Sorry, got sidetracked - I think you will find Connie is one of those

who aren't sure if the LDN is doing anything but there are others on

here who it has definitely helped eg. Gene whose neuro (from memory)

recommended and prescribed it for him - one of the good guys!! :-)
