Guest guest
Hi Alana, Are you on Tertroxin or Cynomel? Reason I ask is that Tertroxin is weaker than Cynomel. Just trying to assess how much potency the 95mcg T3 is. Regarding the Salt. With a Sodium level of 139 1/4teasp Salt twice a day is certainly NOT enough. I would go to 1/4 teasp x 4 daily. Increase more if you respond well (check sitting & standing BP & HR before & after taking it). Try drinking Salty water when you feel hot se if it helps. You say am Cortisol is high but drops off for rest of day? Are you taking anything to help with that? Like adaptogens or Liquorice? It may be just be the cold affecting your temps & HR. A cold will use up Cortisol so you may be low now while fighting that? Have you some Vit C at home? Try taking extra to fight the cold. Extra B Vits would be good too maybe double them as well? Echinacea, Cats Claw, Olive Leaf Extract, Garlic all help fight infection. Also what time of the month is it for you? Temps are higher at & after ovulation? Anything else changed? Stressors, work, home, meds or supps? Lethal Lee > > Hi Everyone, > > I'm in week 15 of my T3 only treatment - Free T3/Reverse T3 ratio of 11, I've worked my way up to 95mcg a day, dosing 5 times a day. I have had high pulse on and off along the way, most likely due to low sodium (which hovers around 139) for which I take 1/4tsp sea salt twice a day. I also have low B12 (hovers around 500) for which I am taking a high dose b-complex for and am sorting out some well absorbed B12 lozenges (I have already had some great suggestions - thank you). My iron and ferritin levels are good (ferritin above 70) and my adrenals are good according to my temps but it looks like I have high cortisol overall according to my saliva test results (ie double the target level at 6am - below target or normal the rest of the day). My temps have always been 37 or below... my basal temps usually low (usually about 36.4 but sometimes 36.6 degrees C). > > I have noticed a lot of improvements along the way - quite amazing improvements in my hypothyroid symptoms but many of them are still lingering. > > I have had trouble sleeping the last few nights with a lot of trouble getting to sleep, even though I feel very tired early in the night and have to go to bed and once asleep I am tossing and turning a lot. This is not completely abnormal but I can usually get to sleep eventually and stay asleep ok. Yesterday, which was a warmer day than usual anyway, I suddenly felt hot - as if I had a temperature - so I took my temp and it was 37.4. Last night I felt so hot I had to sleep in a singlet with the fan on and felt hot even then... a little unusual for this time of the year (I am in Australia) even though it was a warmer night than usual. I did not sleep well with a lot of tossing and turning - even though I was exhausted at 9pm. I took my temp in the morning and it was 37.2 and then later in the day it was 37.4. My pulse has been between 92 and 96 bbp - it usually been about 80-88 bbp lately however it does go a little high sometimes, probably due to low sodium. > > So, week 15 on T3 plus high pulse pulse and high temp should mean clearance right? The only problem is - I have had a cold for the past week which has just flared up again last night. My temp did not go high when I first contracted the cold - but it did yesterday, the day my cold flared up again. > > What should I do? Wait out the cold and see if the temp is still high? Guest guest
Hi Lethal Lee, Thanks for the response - sorry for taking so long to reply, I've been sick with a bad cold that went away only to resurface for a 2nd round. Just starting to feel better now... still very fatigued with it. My temp was high for a couple of days there but has dropped off again - suspecting it was in fact due to the cold and not due to an RT3 clearance. I do not feel hot any more. To answer your questions - I am taking Tertroxin. I took compounded T3 for the first 3 weeks, from May 12 to June 2nd, and worked my way up to 90mcg. I dropped back to 80mcg for 3 days as I was running out of T3 capsules and waiting for a new prescription, as promised, from my doctor. When the last of my compounded T3 ran out I ended up going without any for 4 days, still waiting for my doctor to write a script for Tertroxin. I finally got the script on June 10th - 4 weeks into my T3 treatment. I had to go back to 50mcg and, under my doctors advice, I rose my dose quite quickly. By June 23rd - 6 weeks on T3 - I had risen to 110mcg (too fast) and my doctor said he felt I was the best he'd ever seen me (I was feeling better in a lot of ways) but was experiencing bad heart palps, heart pounding, high pulse, anxiety/panic, irritability and angry outbusrts and brain fog/out of it. During week 7 on 110mcg T3 (June 24) I had, had a major argument with my father (long story - I had genuine reason to be upset but had difficulty controlling my anger/upset) and was experiencing what Val suspected were symptoms of too much T3 mixed with high cortisol - I dropped the T3 back to 80mcg on June 27 and those symptoms settled completely within 1 - 2 days. I moved out of my parents house and lived with some good friends, where I have been ever since, which relieved me of that stressor. June 30 (end of week 7 on T3) I rose back up to 85mcg (I felt a lot of hypothyroid symptoms return with the drop from 110mcg) and over the next 2 weeks (week 8 and 9 on T3) I rose up to 95mcg which I have held ever since. I am now up to 15 weeks on T3 - I noticed a major improvement in my symptoms at around weeks 10 on T3 but no sudden increase in temperature or pulse (I do get high pulse but probably do to low sodium). I do still feel like I have some lingering symptoms of hypothyroidism (especially fatigue and anxiety)... the fatigue is still so bad I do not feel I could cope with part time work. I find if I have one full day I still need at least a full days rest after. Perhaps I have already had a clearance but am not on enough T3? Perhaps, due to the mucking around with the dose to begin with - I still have a way to go with the clearance? Regarding Salt - I am getting an electrolytes test done soon - I will increase my sea salt intake if it is still below 142. (I can't believe that I have had low sodium for SO many years and all of my doctors have told me it's perfectly normal!! Grrrr!!). I tried taking Rhodiola and Ginseng (as I could not find Ashwagandha) but I started taking it just before I had that big fight with my parents and I feared that it could have contributed to my symptoms. I have heard people describe their experience of Rhodiola and Ashwagandha as 'euphoric - like they were on drugs' which scares me as that sounds manic to me and, although I have been in remission since 2002 - since being treated for hypothyroidism - I still try to avoid anything that could cause mania like high caffinated products, st john's wort, anti-depressants (taking high doses of anti-depressants correlated with my only manic episode in 2001). What do you think? I would like to take them but am scared now. Licorice root sounds like a good idea... something new to try. Val doesn't completely trust my cortisol reference ranges at my pathology lab - she's not convinced my cortisol levels as as good as they appear - so I am getting it retested at another lab soon (I have the test kit now). Perhaps I should wait until I get those results back? The time of the month my temps went high was about day 8 or 9 of my cycle - seems to early in the cycle for ovulation. I really think it was related to the cold now :S The temps are back to 'normal' again now... although have fluctuated more than usual while I have been sick. They have been a bit all over the place actually which makes me fear my cortisol has been quite low whilst fighting it. I have also been much more fatigued that usual - I am assuming this will improve as I get better? (I hope I haven't crashed the adrenals!). I have been resting as much as possible. I feel a bit better today... a little less tired. I have been taking all my vits and minerals including Vit C and Zinc and B vitamins. Changes/stressors in my life include having to get ready to move back overseas to live with my partner in 4 weeks time. I have been feeling well enough on T3 to do so (which is amazing!). So I have been very busy and I guess stressed trying to get everything sorted. Any ideas? Encouragements or suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm feeling a little fed up with all of this health stuff for the moment :S Thank you very much for your help, Alana > > > > Hi Everyone, > > > > I'm in week 15 of my T3 only treatment - Free T3/Reverse T3 ratio of 11, I've worked my way up to 95mcg a day, dosing 5 times a day.
